Diego Maradona holds the record for the most expensive sticker. It's the 1979-80 Panini Calciatori #312 of a 19-year-old Diego at Argentinos Juniors, years before Barcelona, Napoli, and the Hand of God. These were peel-and-stick stickers — flimsy backing, razor-thin paper, built to be slapped into an album by a kid and forgotten. To hit Gem Mint 10, a copy had to stay unpeeled, stored flat, and survive a family that didn't toss it for over four decades. By most accounts, barely any did. The one that sold for $555,960 is the only PSA 10 in existence.

Where there's high value, counterfeit is never far. In 2006, Messi made his World Cup debut and Panini sticker debut. Today, the 2006 Panini World Cup Stickers #185 featuring the 18-year-old Messi can command hundreds to thousands of dollars in high grades. 💰 Since the start of the Cup, our graders have seen an uptick in these tricky fakes. At first glance, this counterfeit example looks convincing, Upon a closer look, however, the colors are noticeably darker and more muted than an authentic copy. Moreover, the Argentina flag, "ARG" lettering, and Messi's name all show pixelation and imprecise ink dots, while the authentic version features clean, sharp lines throughout.
