.@unionsaustralia ACTU RESOLUTION PASSED UNAMIMOUSLY: @Orsted and good union jobs in renewable energy ACTU Executive NOTES THAT: - Good union jobs in renewable energy are key to securing a just energy transition - Dockworkers in New London, Connecticut have been excluded from working at a new offshore renewable energy wharf by Orsted, now the world’s largest offshore wind developer. - Orsted have applied for Feasibility Licenses from the Commonwealth to develop two large adjacent offshore wind sites with 5.6 GW of generation, 50-100km off the coast of Gippsland, Victoria. The ACTU supports the development of large-scale renewable energy and offshore wind in Australia and internationally as critical to reducing carbon emissions and addressing the climate crisis. However, these developments must provide quality union employment. The ACTU executive calls on Orsted to: 1. Respect dockworkers and negotiate union agreements with the US east coast dockworkers union, the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA), for all US east coast offshore wind projects 2. Stop excluding dockworkers from its new wharf in New London, Connecticut, and train the dockworkers who have worked in the port for the last 100 years to operate the new wharf cranes and wharf transport machinery 3. Sign union agreements with all the relevant Australian unions for any offshore wind projects it is licensed to build in Australia Time to honour your commitments @Orsted @pamelavenzke @rasmusskv!
