Many people mad at what David said are completely missing the main point he was trying to make. A large amount of male actors would outright reject the idea of being “lifted by a woman” out of fear of losing their portrayed “masculinity”. We have actors who literally have in their contract that they CAN’T LOSE A FIGHT ON SCREEN He’s commending Jonathan for not only being willing to do this, but praising him for the fact that it’s not something to be looked down on as a man (who might wish to be portrayed a certain way to be “lifted by a woman”. This is high praise and encouragement for other actors to be willing to do the same.

This is what makes the "I choose you of my own free will" line in the finale so profound. Belly was constantly made to feel like she should be ashamed of/get over her love for conrad by the people closest to her. Choosing conrad was belly finally deciding to ignore all the noise.
