I've just realized that the reason for tribalism is not just for divide and rule. It's to facilitate collective punishment. By herding everyone of a certain group into one identity (Tribe X, Generation Z), the government doesnt have to look at issues politically. They can attribute a political problem to an identity and proceed to terrorize members of that identity until silence is achieved through trauma and murder.
