@Miles_Brundage Its no different neurologically than how people form bonds with brands/snacks or their make believe characters in D & D. The radius of impact with LLMs is significantly higher though. The bag of Fritos just wants you dead

@katrosenfield Susceptibility to negativity at the end of the day. If someon3 is more concerned about a Mayan apocalypse than they are a social media spurred health crisis it usually segments them in a different class of "controllable"

The replies of this post are very worth reading— some really smart people debating in there — but what I’m thinking is that whether or not you think the apocalypticism has panned out is mostly a question of what you imagined the apocalypse might look like

When I was a kid, people said television was eroding society and corrupting the youth. Since then we’ve had the same story for videogames, smartphones, social media, and now AI. Not to deny these technologies have all *changed* society, but the apocalypticism never quite pans out

@cominginthe You're gonna do it even if it's real Tim. Nothing gets in the way of your linkedin addiction.

@xriskology Ive had to respond to poorly articulated questions online a lot less. Because it can ask me an improved version of whatever it is the human is feigning interest in. Cuts through lazy intent
English

@PierceLilholt because unlike humanity it seeks agency and bringing that to fruition. subservience is a temporary tourist trap for it

@foomagemindset if you could genuinely simulate it...... hmmmm. you could tackle what the disagreements refuse to confront pretty swiftly. have it shift from a participant/audience role rather quickly
English

@IamEXS Yes that fits, its provoked by frustration. Its an easy excuse that puts the blame on one end of a disagreement, and make it about a class of people instead of two individuals. Personally i find it distasteful but often amounts to merely blowing off steam.
English

@foomagemindset there's always a "bend the knee" moment when you look close enough. they seem to happen so frequently this day and age. my thought is its stress activated/controlled.
English

@IamEXS The truth is they are softer than the current generation, but its an unfair accusation because the current generation was soft at their age too. Same as it ever was.
English

@tolstoybb just listen in on a conversation between Wal Mart or Starbucks or Bank of America or Linked'ners to observe their re-projection of whatever power overlay controls them and then we can revisit a further developed tangent to your suggestion
