I woke up this morning and saw $1,000 in my Metamask wallet.
But wait.
I have never used that wallet for any transaction.
I never bought any token with this wallet.
So, how did $1,000 get there?
Have you ever seen this before?
At first, I was happy.
Then I remembered this might be a scam.
I say to myself: "This is how many people get scammed oo."
But how?
Scammers send fake tokens to wallets randomly.
They add a fake price using small or manipulated liquidity.
Your wallet reads the data and shows the value.
But the money is not real.
When you click, connect your wallet, sell it, or approve a transaction with that token.
Automatically, you give the scammer access to your wallet.
Most times, they don’t steal immediately.
They wait.
Later, your tokens, usdt and others disappear.
At that point, your wallet is no longer safe. In fact, you no longer have control over your wallet.
The lesson:
If you did not buy the token, and you saw it in your wallet, do not touch it.
A token you cannot freely sell is worth zero.
So, how can we avoid this?
