Wanting Black Americans to build families with one another is not “Black supremacy.” It is cultural preservation. Only Black American families can intentionally reproduce Black American lineage, transmit our history, preserve our traditions, and build communities rooted in our shared experience. Our culture is already being fragmented, renamed, absorbed, and erased. Inter-ethnic marriage may be a personal choice, but at a collective level it does not strengthen the continuity of the Black American people. We do not have to abandon one another to find love, stability, marriage, or healthy families. We can choose each other. We can build families among ourselves. And those families can build Black American communities that survive us.
