@FelixLongbrook @SAFCFANSVIEW Created originally by Don Revie after he was discarded by Sunderland & signed for Leeds. Shortly after Bobby Collins broke Willie McPheats leg & ruined his career. Revie & Collins created Dirty Leeds. Then the promotion battle. Games were always fractious with fights & send offs.
English

@SAFCFANSVIEW The rivalry with Leeds goes back to the 1960s.
Both clubs were promoted in 1963/64, with Leeds pipping Sunderland to the title.
Bobby Kerr had his leg broken by Norman Hunter in 1967.
Sunderland beating Leeds to win the 1973 FA Cup Final.
English

Clubs to have tried to force a rivalry with us over recent years
1: Coventry
2: Portsmouth
3: Wycombe
4: Leeds
The Leeds one only recently this season for some strange reason??
Cov/Pompey/Wycombe were just small clubs trying to be relevant at the time.

@adam__1098 @drfc_official Remember another Rovers legend scoring a hat trick against Peterborough almost 60 years ago.
The King himself - Alick Jeffrey in 1967.👑

@M_Keeling @juliesund Unfortunately there are worse eg our Australian friend currently refereeing Arsenal v Fulham
English

@Philip_RJ89 @juliesund From that comment I can conclude you’ve never played centre back against a big lump of a striker. Effectively he was hanging onto his shirt not his hair. For that to be deemed violent conduct is as pathetic as the game can get
English

Sorry, but that’s absolutely fucking ridiculous from Ballard.
Of all the things to get sent off for, pulling another player’s hair is right down there. Grown adults and highly-paid footballers behaving like kids in a playground.

@JamesCopley_ Season is over now - well done we survived, but if the owners needed a wake up call this is it. This league is brutal & if they don’t significantly improve this squad we are in trouble next season. Glaring weaknesses brutally exposed.
English

@bbcnewcastle @bizzofsport I’m not privy to the process here but surely the club would have provided existing SC holders to sort out their situation before opening up the waiting list. There are all sorts of extenuating circumstances that should allow loyal SC holders to get their house in order first?
English

❤️🤍Sunderland fan Ian has been reacting to Interim CEO, Tom Burwell's, @bizzofsport podcast.
Is the supporter connection being tested with the club pushing to increase revenues?

@ElliotLuke19 @JamesCopley_ Should have squared it to Talbi for a tap in. No excuses.
English

@JamesCopley_ Chips after the keeper goes down, it’s just a stupendously good save… sad to admit, but it is just a stupidly good save from Martinez
English

Heartbreaking way to lose it after fighting back so well - especially with Diarra having that late chance to win it. Questionable choice to chip.
Don’t even know where to start analysing that. A Premier League classic, but Sunderland end up on the wrong side.
Thoughts?

@GotNotGot Ray Harrison Sports Store in Doncaster. Allegedly Kevin Keegan bought his first pair of football boots there.
English

What was your local 'sports shop' called?
What do you remember buying from there?
Are there any left?

@Terry94023972 Not sure about Diarra but on the others. Talbi young confidence player didn’t like the pitch- gone. Geertruida head turned by Liverpool hasn’t been interested since. Isidor been off for weeks - looks totally disinterested- will first out of the door come summer
English

Something else. Possibly some may disagree and that's fair enough.
But Diarra, Talbi, Geertruida & Isidor , to me at least, didn't seem interested.
Like I say some may disagree but that that's what I thought

Win or lose I always tweet 63 years I've been going and obviously I've endured quite a lot of disappointment But today is possìbly sick as I've felt Port Vale weren't very good But we were awful. Completely lacking desire Sorry #safc
English

@RyanClose19 @JamesCopley_ He surely can if he has the squad to do it. The facts were even in the championship if you rely on Isidor & Mayenda up top you will struggle to score goals. Isidor & Mayenda are not EPL quality forwards. If you have quality EPL forwards you can change your style
English

@JamesCopley_ James do you truly believe RLB can change the style of play considering last season was very similar. We were lowest scorers in the top 6 and hardlys battered anyone
English

I think it has a place in the Premier League when you have injuries and are a newly-promoted side.
But you can’t justify playing like that against League One’s bottom club. Needed to see more.
Ultimately, the style will have to evolve eventually. No choice.

Simon Landau@SimonLandau5
@JamesCopley_ It’s the way play James- our XG is shocking- if this style of football continues we’ll be in serious trouble next season- we’ve already been found out in the second half of this one
English

@4oliiver @JamesCopley_ It is quite clear that Regis is not a manager who throws his players under the bus. I was annoyed by his comments but you can see he is uncharacteristically raging inside. I’m sure the hairdryer was in use but he himself is not blameless for this one.
English

@JamesCopley_ He is clearly not saying it is what it is. He is saying that to a reporter he is fizzing and doesn’t want to talk you can see it all over his face. I hope he went in there and was ripping them to pieces.

English

@9inchnige @BallerTalk0 @SunderlandAFC We all know where our major weakness currently lies & expect it to be resolved in the summer if we are to see progression. I expect Isidor to be first out of the door in that process. Mayenda? Still has a lot to learn & I believe will be kept but further down the pecking order.
English

@IanAitcher @BallerTalk0 @SunderlandAFC Being serious Ian, wouldn't you think that Isidor & Mayenda would absolutely bust a gut to prove to the gaffer that they deserve the start ahead of brobbey when he's back. That there tells you everything why they haven't been anywhere near the pitch in 6 months !!!!
English

@9inchnige @BallerTalk0 @SunderlandAFC Very generous with Rigg (3 for me) & Mayenda (2). Maybe give Isidor 1 to equal the number of times he contributed to the game.
English

@BallerTalk0 @SunderlandAFC Keeper & back 4 - 6
Rigg 6, diarra 4
Talbi 5, le fee 4, angulo 4
Mayenda 4
Isidor 3
Filipino

@JamesCopley_ Sorry but that is a totally unsatisfactory response.
English

Régis Le Bris: "Full credit to our opponent... we were not at the level. We did not show enough to impose our strengths today.
"It is what it is. You have to accept it. I am disappointed. I am sad for the fans."
#SAFC
English

@JamesCopley_ It’s a bare bones squad but that was a pathetic performance against league one opponents. Coaches only positive move was to put Ballard up top & he did more in 10 minutes than what Mayenda & Isidor combined contributed for the whole game. From the first whistle you knew the score
English

Dan Ballard couldn't be more deserving of his new contract.
People forget that he was injured for much of 24/25, and was in and out of the team when he was fit with Mepham and O'Nien the starting duo.
But he played every minute of the play-offs, scoring that massive goal vs Coventry to send us to Wembley. We might not be in the Premier League without him.
This season? A genuine colossus.
Composed in possession, warrior at the back, monster in the air.
With Xhaka's form slightly dipping at Christmas time, Mukiele making one or two mistakes around the same time...
There is an argument that he's been our best player this season. At the very least he's firmly in the conversation.
Given we signed him for around £2m after just 31 appearances in the top 2 divisions of English football, it's an incredible story!
