The jaw dropping early C16th angel roof at St. Wendreda's in March, Cambridgeshire - Sir John Betjeman said it was "worth cycling forty miles into a headwind to see." It's hard to believe that this beautiful example of medieval craftsmanship is under threat #thread

On the 23 May 1809, the Merchant ship Minerva which had been making the run from Bushire in Persia was accosted by a Qasimi pirate fleet. The fleet which consisted of 55 vessels, had been chasing them for two days until they caught them. Just off the Musandam peninsular. The ship was over whelmed in the typical Qasimi fashion and the crew subdued. Their captors were puritanical Wahabis, followers of a movement that sprang up a few decades before. They purified the ship with water and perfumes. They separated their captives into valuable and worthless. Then one by one, they led the worthless crew to the gunwale. Where to the cries of Allah Akbar, they slit their throats. The people of quality were kept for ransom. Two of these were a Mrs Taylor and her infant son. At Ras Al Khaimah they were sold to a Bahraini Arab. Who then sold them back to the British for twice the price.

The theme for this year's festival (held in the Drill Hall, Chepstow 27th to 29th Sept) is PINK. So 25p from the sale of each pint will go to Pink Ribbon UK, who help in the fight against breast cancer, amongst other things. Glen

Younger peeps who enjoy Masters of the Air will struggle to entry any aircraft... ever. As a kid & then teenager, I regularly explored the interiors of bombers at IWM & other museums. Bar the Sunderland @ Hendon... are there any free walk throughs left in the UK? #WW2 #History

If today's a slow one, how about a stroll along the world's longest mountain chain? No, not Himalaya (2,500km). And not the Andes (7,000km) either. This one's....65,000km long. But it's ok. We'll just do a bit of it. 1/

Welcome to the jungle! But it's not fun or games for Private Ian Ewell when he arrives for his first posting with the Australian SAS in 1968. Ewell's gonna learn pretty fast there's 'No Heroes' out there! Issue 5605 out soon! - QM

@andylittledale @2SevernBridges I assume it's the kit currently high on the bridge for the engineering works. Any of that comes loose and lands on a vehicle is very bad news.
