The Hebble Brook is a funny old thing. It's not in your face, showy, or boastful; in fact, it prefers to keep itself hidden away as far as possible. It makes few demands: a concrete bridge here and there, the odd culvert or two. It just goes on doing its job, carrying water from up on the tops to down in the valley, from Ogden to Salterhebble. Solid (in a liquid sort of way), unpretentious, dependable: it's a Halifax river.

I was sat in a pub last night chatting about photogenic Northern towns with a London based photographer friend. I heartily recommended Halifax. I took this shot about six years ago. I'm still surprised nobody has ever made such an iconic view famous.
