Apart from happily watching this for ages, it started me wondering how it might be integrated into a lesson #onceaphysicsteacher Maybe an interesting eg of how thinking aboutf research: hypothesise, propose variables, consider what data to capture etc youtu.be/711bZ_pLusQ

Research Mobilities in Primary Literacy Education
We have a new podcast! This episode introduces what corpus linguistics is & how we're using the method in our project. Dr Anna Lindroos Cermakova explains what analysing newspapers & Twitter conversations tells us about how people understand & talk about literacy in England.

After completing @geofftech's challenge to find out: "When Did You Fall Out Of Touch With Popular Music?" youtu.be/BnRFYPhECNM ... I think it's fair to say some while ago. Quite some while ago in fact!

Nice surprise hearing a story of research at an alma mater (@UniversityLeeds) on this weeks @scifri podcast. A 'mechanical tongue' for testing chocolate though? The physical scientist in me says 'natch', but the social scientist thinks, 'what a waste'. 😉
Science Friday@scifri

Do you have some leftover Valentine's chocolates around? Join us for a little experiment! On #SciFriLive📻, food scientist Dr. Anwesha Sarkar (@Sarkar_Lab) shares how they built a mechanical tongue to learn more about the physics of chocolate's mouthfeel. sciencefriday.com/segments/choco…

Just catching up with @Freakonomics podcast to find the team on a rare field trip ... in Kirkcaldy & Glasgow! (I'm sure @johnjohnston and @parslad will have made them welcome) Fascinating short series of podcasts on Smith and what grew from his thinking.
Freakonomics@Freakonomics

How did an affable 18th-century “moral philosopher” become the patron saint of cutthroat capitalism? Does “the invisible hand” mean what everyone thinks it does? We travel to Adam Smith’s hometown in Scotland to uncover the man behind the myth. freak.ws/3F9oW1L

On contacting HMRC by phone today, was 1st invited to opt into a feedback service. Always happy to oblige, I said yes. When completing the form later and, after writing a long response, pressing 'Continue' generated “Sorry, there is a problem with the service” Oh the irony!

@northernassist Thanks again. It just seems unfair that folks from Saxilby, travelling on *exactly the same trains* as those from Lincoln, just one stop down the line, don't have access to the full range of fares. I'll let you get back to back to travellers with more pressing needs 👍

@IaninSheffield Advance singles are not available on all of our routes I'm afraid, sorry about that. ^ELT

Wonder if @northernassist can help me understand why a longer journey (Lincoln - Worksop) costs almost twice that of a part journey on the same route (Saxilby - Worksop)? Thanks.

@northernassist Thanks once more; I'm grateful for your patience. However, even when looking for a ticket several weeks in advance, no Advance singles seem to be available from Saxilby, even when trying different days. That seems to be a little unfair ... or am I missing something?

@IaninSheffield It might be that the advance fares for one of these journeys have sold out, as these are subject to availability. ^ELT

@northernassist Ah, that makes sense thanks. However, why wouldn't the system offer the advance single for *both* journeys, given that both queries were made through the online portal at the same time?

@IaninSheffield Hi there. I can see that the cheaper option is an advance single, whereas the more expensive option is an anytime day single. Our fares vary depending on the type of ticket you purchase. ^ELT
