🚨 Stella Creasy 👏 “It’s not a solution to look to the North Sea!” On #PoliticsLive argument shifted: 👉 First it was “drill more = lower bills” (not true) 👉 Now it’s “drill more = security” But if fuel is globally traded and priced, we don’t control it. And Brexit made this worse: less integration, less cooperation, more exposure to global markets. Drilling more doesn’t fix that. Real security comes from: 👉 rebuilding ties with Europe 👉 investing in energy we actually control: renewables 🔥 If you don’t control the price, you don’t control the energy.

🇳🇴 Norway took its oil wealth and built the world’s largest sovereign wealth fund — investing in pensions, healthcare, and the future. 🇬🇧 Britain sold ours off in the 1980s, handed control to private corporations, and spent the revenues on short-term tax cuts. 🔴 Today, Norway has one of the highest standards of living in the world — while the UK is stuck managing decline. 🔵 Thatcher’s Conservative govt was responsible for handing over control of North Sea oil to private corporations, dismantling public ownership, and prioritising free-market policies over long-term public wealth. Thatcher forfeited long-term public income from oil in favour of short-term privatisation proceeds and tax cuts. 🔴 Norway, by contrast, retained public control and built up the $1.6 trillion Norwegian Sovereign Wealth Fund from its oil wealth. The UK spent most of its oil revenues on general government spending during the 1980s, with little legacy investment.

This chart matters. Since the Brexit vote in 2016, EU GDP per capita (PPP) has grown three times faster than the UK’s. EU27: +12% UK: +4% Same global shocks. Same pandemic. Same energy crisis. The difference isn’t Covid or Ukraine - it’s market access, investment confidence, labour mobility and scale. While the EU recovered and then accelerated, the UK: •took a deeper hit, •recovered more weakly, •and then flatlined. This is what structural economic damage looks like - not a temporary wobble, not “transition pain”, but a lasting downgrade in living standards. And the most dangerous lie in British politics is still being told: “We haven’t done Brexit properly yet.” We did. This is it. It’s Brexit.
Tom Forth@thomasforth

Since 2016, the economic strength of the EU as measured by GDP/capita at PPP has grown by 8 percentage points more than the UK. +12% vs. +4%. ourworldindata.org/grapher/gdp-pe…

This is the reality Britain 🇬🇧 was sold out of. 🇪🇺 EU = 46% of UK trade 🇺🇸 US = 18% 🌍 Rest of world = 36% Trump’s tariffs are noise by comparison. Brexit cut us off from our main market 👉permanently. That’s why Britain is weaker, poorer, and easier to bully.

🇨🇦 @MarkJCarney is treating Trump like the rupture he is 👏 🇨🇦 Canada loses 1.8% and rewrites its economic strategy. 🇬🇧 Britain chose to lose 4–5% of GDP with Brexit rupture and pretended nothing happened. 🇨🇦 Canada faces reality to respond to rupture with planning. 🇬🇧 Britain responded to Brexit with slogans and culture wars. Canada admits the rupture. Britain denied it.

What has damaged Farmer's more - inheritance tax or ......brexit ..... A brexit which Iain Dale supported and of course his opinion on inheritance tax nothing to do with the 250 acre family farm he grew up on - what's that worth lets say 250 × £12,000 an acre

“Labour have a real problem with the countryside.” @IainDale tells the government to ‘jog on’ following their decision to ban trail hunting.

🔴 Austerity weakened Britain. Brexit finished the job. And that’s why: 🇬🇧 Every PM now fails 🇬🇧 Leadership churn replaces honesty 🇬🇧 Elites protect themselves while telling everyone else to face the market 🆘 Until austerity is named as the accelerator 👉and Brexit as the lock, Britain 🇬🇧 stays trapped in decline, no matter who holds the baton. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

The ECHR has stopped the UK from deporting just 13 people in the last 45 years. Getting rid of it is not going to make a noticeable difference is it?

Sir John Curtice has confirmed it: Liz Truss didn’t just wreck the economy 👉her mini-Budget killed the last remaining belief that Brexit would ever deliver growth. Even Leave voters now say Brexit has harmed the UK. And Curtice is blunt: 👉 Labour would gain electorally by moving closer to the EU. So why are Starmer & Reeves doing the opposite? ❌ A farm tax designed for a US-style land grab ❌ A pharma deal with Trump that locks us out of the Customs Union ❌ Red lines that keep Britain poorer while pretending we’re “moving closer to Europe” Stop the deceit!

This is seismic. When the Telegraph - the house paper of Brexit - publishes a 2,000-word obituary admitting: 📉 Brexit has cut UK GDP by up to 8% 📉 Investment down 18% 📉 Productivity down 4% 📉 Employment down 4% 📉 No trade benefits 📉 No regulatory freedom 📉 No immigration control 📉 No growth …it’s over. This isn’t Remainers talking. This is the Telegraph saying Brexit has been an unmitigated economic failure. The numbers are now so bad, so undeniable, that even the architects of the project can’t keep pretending. Brexit wasn’t a reset. It wasn’t sovereignty. It wasn’t taking back control. It was a slow economic strangulation: a textbook case of national self-harm, dragging investment, wages, growth and confidence down with it. We can’t build a future on a foundation of lies. Time to repair the damage. Time to rejoin the single market. Time to put the country first.

🚩😮 Peak F*CK ME Brexit moment When the Telegraph - THE BREXITGRAPH - publishes a full-blown obituary for Brexit, admitting: 📉 GDP down up to 8% 📉 Investment down 18% 📉 Productivity down 4% 📉 Employment down 4% ❌ No trade benefits ❌ No control of immigration ❌ No regulatory freedom ❌ No upside whatsoever …that’s not a debate anymore. That’s a death 💀 certificate for Brexit!!! This is the moment the Right’s own economists finally say the quiet part out loud: Brexit has been an unmitigated economic disaster. Not mixed. Not needs time. Not teething problems. A. Total. F*cking. Failure. And if even the Telegraph can say it then every politician still defending Brexit is lying to the public and lying to themselves. It’s time to stop pretending. It’s time to fix this mess. It’s time to rejoin the single market. Country before bullshit. 🔗 archive.ph/2025.11.29-132…
