Very sad day today -- I learned that my Ph.D. mentor Jim Staley passed away on Thursday.
He was a wonderful human being and a rigorous scientist.
It was he who coined the phrase "The Great Plate Count Anomaly" in environmental microbiology & discovered prosthecate bacteria
