Polygamy has never been normal in Britain. And yet the Government has just committed to giving even more taxpayer money to people in polygamous marriages. If you come to this country, you should abide by our norms. You certainly shouldn't get paid extra for failing to do so.

About 400 years ago in Edo Japan a samurai lord was riding home through a sudden thunderstorm. He passed a tiny, run-down temple. At the gate sat a small white cat. The cat raised its paw at him. Almost like it was waving him over. Curious, he turned his horse. He stepped under the temple roof. A heartbeat later, lightning struck the road exactly where he had been standing. He survived because of a cat that beckoned him in. He spent the rest of his life making sure that temple never went hungry again. The temple is Gotokuji. It still stands today, in Tokyo. That cat became the maneki-neko — the lucky cat you've seen in every Asian restaurant in the world. It started as one cat saving one man's life on a stormy afternoon.

HE KNEW THE DOSSIER WAS FAKE. WEEKS LATER HE WAS DEAD IN A FIELD Dr David Kelly was Britain's foremost weapons inspector. He spent years inspecting Iraqi facilities, earned a Nobel Peace Prize nomination, and knew more about Saddam's arsenal than almost anyone in government. In 2002, Tony Blair's government published a dossier claiming Iraq could deploy chemical and biological weapons within 45 minutes. Britain went to war on the back of it. No weapons were ever found. Kelly knew the dossier was rubbish. He said so, quietly, to a @BBC journalist. That conversation ended his career, his privacy, and ultimately his life. The MOD carefully allowed his name to leak to the press as the BBC's source. He was then hauled before parliamentary committees, stripped apart by his own employer, and thrown to a media frenzy he never asked for. Two days after giving evidence to MPs, the 59-year-old was found dead in woodland near his Oxfordshire home. Instead of a proper inquest, Tony Blair asked Lord Hutton to run a private inquiry. Hutton concluded suicide. The inquest was opened, then suspended, and never resumed. Eight senior legal and medical figures, including a coroner, later wrote to @thetimes saying the verdict was unsafe. They argued the wound found on Kelly's wrist, a severed ulnar artery, would not have caused sufficient blood loss to kill a healthy person. There were no fingerprints on the knife found beside his body, even though he was not wearing gloves. In 2011, Attorney General Dominic Grieve rejected all calls for a new inquest. He said the Hutton Inquiry was "tantamount to an inquest" and that further investigation would be dismissed by judges with irritation. A man challenged the government's justification for a war that killed hundreds of thousands of people. He was publicly destroyed, died in mysterious circumstances, never got a proper inquest, and the people who sent him into that media storm faced no consequences whatsoever. Tony Blair became a Middle East Peace Envoy the following year. You genuinely could not make it up. Sources: @BBCNews, openDemocracy, Hansard, @thetimes | Hutton Report

Al Pacino spent part of The Godfather quietly hoping to get fired. While filming the escape from this very scene, he ran and jumped for the getaway car, missed, and hit a Bronx gutter, twisting his ankle so badly he couldn't get up. His first feeling, lying there, was relief. He was sure it was his way out of the picture. The relief made sense, because the studio really did want him gone. Two weeks into filming in 1971, Paramount thought he was flat and forgettable in the role. They had wanted a bigger name, someone like Robert Redford or Warren Beatty, to play Michael Corleone. Coppola took him to dinner and told him straight that the footage wasn't working, and when Pacino watched it back, he agreed. The studio was ready to recast and swallow everything it had already spent. So Coppola made a bet. By Pacino's own account, he pushed the restaurant killing up the schedule on purpose, to give the people who wanted Pacino gone one last reason to keep him. Pacino played it exactly as quietly as he had all along. The footage just made the studio finally see what he was doing. Then there's the part you can hear but never see. Coppola wanted no music under the buildup to the killing, and when he watched the edited scene, it felt dead on screen. His sound man, Walter Murch, dropped in the screech of an elevated train, the kind that runs on raised tracks over a city street, and pushed it loud. There is no train in that scene. Nothing you can see is making that noise. Murch built it from his own memories of growing up in New York, and called it the sound of a man's mind scraping around a sharp corner. The rising train people single out in this clip was added later, in a sound studio, to drop you inside Michael's head as he works himself up to killing two men. The Italian that Sollozzo and Michael speak right before the shots was left without subtitles, also Coppola's call, so you stay locked on their faces instead of reading along at the bottom. The gun was taped behind the toilet tank for Michael to go find. One of the biggest careers in movie history turned on a single scene, performed by the one man on set who was hoping to get fired before he ever had to shoot it.
cinesthetic.@TheCinesthetic

The restaurant scene in The Godfather is one of the best examples of Pacino acting almost entirely through his eyes. The train sound getting louder in the background while Pacino sits there thinking through the decision is such a perfect tension detail.

As of Wednesday, the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has adopted the Government’s official definition of “Anti-Muslim Hostility”. The FSU is in no doubt that the NMC will enforce this de facto Islamic blasphemy code zealously. After all, the regulator initially deemed NHS nurse Jennifer Melle — who had served for 12 years — unfit to practise after she refused, on grounds of her Christian faith, to refer to a trans paedophile patient by his preferred pronouns. The NMC has already offered an example of what it considers “anti-Muslim hostility”. It says that if an employee posts an image on social media stereotyping Muslims — for example, “an image depicting women with headscarves, men with long beards and a mosque in the background” — alongside a call for the deportation of “anyone who undermines British values and the British way of life”, it would likely take action against them and deem them unfit to practise. The FSU will be keeping a very close eye on the NMC and would support anyone struck off for such speech.

You need to grow up in Iran. Go to school under Islamic law, experienced get beaten up for showing your hair, go to prison for speaking up receiving lashes where fear is part of your daily education, then you will understand my feelings in front of this Mosque in Hamburg. This Blue Mosque and more the 50 more across Germany were built by the regime of Iran under the protection of your laws, your tolerance, your tax system, and your religious freedom. And what did Europe get in return? A new generation taught that the West is evil while Hamas, Hezbollah, and the IRGC are somehow “resistance.”

saw this and had a random thought. if Italy were ever weakened to the point where they had no control of muslim mobs, the muslims would absolutely rage and smash every bit of classical and renaissance art still left. and we know this because it's what they have done in their own conquered regions and continue to do throughout the world to this very day. nearly every day you hear about some church or some shrine getting defaced or burned to the ground. yesterday i saw a bunch of muslims try to burn down a set of giant doors to some Italian estate or building with a hairspray and lighter improvised torch. we really have no respect for what muslims will do to our Western traditional history or people if they ever get the edge on power to do so. they will destroy everything, rape and kill in the most barbaric ways imaginable while the so called "moderate muslims" look onward.

Heartbreaking. Henry Nowak’s name has hardly been mentioned by anyone in the Mainstream Media. That’s why we must use our voices on platforms like X to raise awareness Henry’s friends and family posted this video of him and his sister Olivia with the caption “Henry is missed so much by so many. Henry's family have a drive and that is to keep Henry's name alive by raising money for “2Wish” the charity that continues to help them navigate their grief.” Rest in peace Henry. Sending love and prayers to his family right now. @elonmusk is already doing a great job of spreading awareness but collectively we must do more.

I need to be as clear as humanly possible: under no circumstances on Earth whatsoever should another Godfather film ever be made. Ever. I say this amid reports The Godfather is being rebooted into a 4th film. This truly upsets me. Hollywood needs to focus on making NEW stories.

My father is currently in the hospital due to blood clots in his lungs, knees, and near his heart. I humbly ask for your prayers, that the Lord’s healing touch would embrace him and strengthen my family during this time, and above all, that God’s will be done. Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy.

When my father could not stand by himself, and seemed cognitively impaired we called an ambulance and traveled with him inside it. As we journeyed I silently cried out in dispair to God. Almost immediately a street sign flashed pass the window "Jesus Saves" this gave me trust and hope. My father survived that day. We would have been queuing for hours but a diligent paramedic recognised an issue with his blood pressure. It was life threatening and he was prioritisied. My grandma, a lady of 93 years of age left this mortal realm several months ago. I do not know a greater example of a Christian woman and the good that she achieved in this life cannot have been done by her sheer will and character alone. They said she had a blood clot in her lung. She did not show pain, she had all her teeth and smiled until the end, . She lived for 4 months with that diagnosis. The several weeks she spent in the hospital took away her mobility. God be with you brother, and your father and your family, and God's will be done. Amen.
