My dad called me at the end of last season and said he had kidney disease.” “You know how parents are—they don’t really tell you the whole story. I had no idea what kidney disease or dialysis was lol. I looked it up, did some quick math on how long you can be on dialysis at his age versus the expected turnaround time for a kidney donation. It wasn’t good math. It didn’t really add up. It was a tough hurdle to get over.” “My dad’s attitude the whole time—he was just so positive about everything. It really helped us as a family to be like, ‘Okay, let’s go support him. Let’s do what we need to do.’” “If God would have it, a woman from his church, Samantha Harris—God bless her—donated her kidney to my dad. A couple of weeks later, they did the operation. She is doing great. My dad is doing great.
