MCAS and Multiple Chemical Sensitivity is definitely the driver in my case. I had POTS and IST for years prior to long COVID and it never affected me in this way. But now an ANA of 1:2560 and rheumatologists throwing around Marfan’s or EDS but not wanting to commit to anything. It’s bizarre being able to hit a high C effortlessly and then hours later it’s like there’s no energy for the muscles that support the voice - not the cords themselves. Definitely a unique problem for us professional singers and musicians that I don’t hear about often. Would love to be able to tour again.

@IllAdvised I think you’d likely have to biopsy or scrape some cells off somehow, which isn’t really possible w/o huge risks to the vocal folds. PEM can certainly be a part of it. Other conditions like MCAS & GERD/LPR can cause laryngeal edema & irritation as well, so that’s a thing too

If it’s there, there’s been no sign on any imaging I’ve had over the past 3 years. Sadly the PEM/mitochondrial dysfunction hypothesis rings the most true - but then the question is what is causing it? Which sort of circles back to your tweet here. At least I have an excuse for keeping vampire hours now and waking up 2 hours before any performance 🤣

@IllAdvised I also wonder if covid can actually persist in the vocal fold epithelium itself. It has been shown to persist in the gut epithelium, so I’m really really curious if that could possibly be the case with some vocal issues in LongCovid. But, no one has studied this

I wasn’t talking about getting insurance to pay. I was willing to pay out of pocket. I was told most of the genetic testing at relevant hospitals is pediatric and unless you are seen before you are 18, only if they agree to take you on, which is very rare, even if your referring physician believes there’s strong evidence in your favor, it is very rare they will see an adult. I was told oh well, too bad, and that has been the end of it, sadly.

@IllAdvised @C0SMICDUSTS This isn't always the case. There has to be something seriously wrong with the child for insurance and doctors to pay for a genetic test. I'm fighting now for my level 3 autistic child with multiple developmental delays and a weird shaped head to be seen. They don't care.

I got reinfected with COVID in July 2024 and since then I’ve been unable to use a computer screen. There are a lot of us with long COVID who are very sensitive to invisible flickering on computers, phones, televisions, and LED and fluorescent lighting. PWM and temporal dithering are two techniques used that very quickly destabilize binocular vision in a lot of us and cause visual and neurological symptoms.

This is a MUST read post. It is not just about eye tracking - I promise. You want to read this. Seeing the effects of infection on how we process visual information is mind-changing and life-changing. This is the type of post you will forward to friends and family to help them understand. Trust me.

I want to ask you to follow this dot with your eyes. Was that easy? Without you even having to give that much thought, your brain is telling your eye muscles where to move to keep your focus on that dot. 1/

@PaulGadsden82 Fun times going to the ER unable to walk or breathe, heart rate 140 bpm, no lymphocytes, and being told, “Well, what do you want me to do?”

YouTube: youtu.be/rg41ctPIivk?si… Spotify: open.spotify.com/track/6gIiLN1c… “I’ll Stick Around” You said you’d kill To hide the pain Most days you lie Just to feel something You’ve got no empathy I think you hate me But I’ll stick around anyway You called me a loser I took the bait Didn’t really mind I’m that lonely Remember the text you sent? Told me you wished that I was dead But I’ll stick around anyway If I run away You’ll come after me Say it’ll be different now This time I won’t beat you down After all this pain There’s no escape Said you’d better never tell Oh, this life will beat you down I know I should’ve done something But boys don’t cry It’s not the same I guess I should’ve screamed What the hell is wrong with me? But I’ll stick around anyway If I run away You’ll come after me Say it’ll be different now This time I won’t beat you down After all this pain There’s no escape Said you’d better never tell Oh, this life will beat you down But I’ll stick around anyway This life will beat you down But I’ll stick around anyway This life will beat you down But I’ll stick around anyway This life will beat you down But I’ll stick around anyway
