The City of Cleveland has officially rejected the permit application for the proposed hyperscale data center campus planned for Slavic Village. The $1.6 billion project would have brought multiple large data center buildings to a 35-acre site near Interstate 77 and East 55th Street. The proposal generated major discussion across the city after details revealed the facility could require roughly 150 megawatts of power, an amount compared to the energy usage of around 100,000 homes. Residents, city leaders, and community groups raised concerns about infrastructure, utilities, environmental impact, and how a project of that scale could affect the neighborhood. The project had quickly become one of the most talked-about development proposals in Cleveland over the past week before the city announced the denial Thursday.
