You may not be aware, but Bihar has some of the finest mango varieties in India. Bhagalpur’s famous Zardalu even has a GI tag. Bihar cultivates over 300 varieties of mangoes across its 38 districts and contributes nearly 8% of India’s total mango production, making it one of the country’s top five mango-producing states. Maldah mangoes from Bihar are, in my view, far tastier than Alphonso, though they have a shorter shelf life, which is one reason they remain less commercialised nationally. Come to Bihar!
