6 THINGS TO KNOW WHEN YOU LOVE SOMEONE SUFFERING WITH ADDICTION: 1. You can’t fix them or love them out of addiction. 2. Loving them means placing clear boundaries. 3. They must be an active participant in their recovery to change their behavior. 4. People who struggle with addiction lack coping skills. This can put people they love in dangerous situations. Keep yourself safe. 5. If you have to, choose yourself. 6. Wanting help and actually engaging in getting help are two different things.

Someone needs to hear this: leaving someone because they continue to live dysfunction and refuse to change isn’t abandonment. It’s self protection.
