Immigration enforcement has become a system designed to break people — not protect communities. Families separated. Legal residents swept up. Human beings warehoused in conditions that violate their basic rights. We cannot look away.

This isn't only happening far from home. In June 2025, WBUR reported ICE was holding immigrants in inhumane conditions at the Burlington, MA field office — a building never designed for detention. Lawyers witnessed clients who were cold, hungry, and terrified.

Justice requires more than words. It requires showing up. And we will continue to do just that.

Across the country, states and local leaders are pushing back against expanded federal immigration enforcement and working to protect community trust and due process. Here in MA, the PROTECT Act by the Massachusetts Black and Latino Legislative Caucus would do exactly that.

Mabel Center’s roots are in fighting against family detention & other inhumane policies aimed at asylum seekers. Many of us worked in family detention centers & saw firsthand the long-lasting damage it inflicts. We'll continue to fight against every iteration of this cruel policy

Family detention is never the answer. It didn’t work in previous administrations, it won’t work now. Families who've suffered persecution in home countries & punitive treatment by the US immigration system shouldn't be forced to suffer a prison-like system

We will fight against this policy that is not only cruel, but undermines the foundation of asylum law. By US law, those fleeing danger have the right to their day in court— how they arrive in the US is a function of necessity, not choice, and should never erode their rights.
