@PatrickMayers4 Thanks Patrick! I’m glad you found it useful. I think encouraging the students to be involved in the composting process will aid them in having a better understanding of the gardens ecosystem.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention @ImogenSlackSmi1 such a cheap alternative to purchasing compost! Another great idea to add to my community garden project #UoNTeach #Educ4750 #SDG12

Wow! Look at the positive impact that #wormfarming can have. The good bacteria in worm juice helps put nitrogen back into the soil. Worm farms have a small set up cost and then they are basically free to run once set up #SDG12

I would love for my students to be given the opportunity to learn about Aboriginal perspectives in relation to agricultural practices. It would be great for them to hear about some of the first crops grown here in Australian such as yams and native grains #SDG12 #UoNTeach
Amber Franks@AmberLeeFranks

When developing a unit plan on #sustainability #sdg12 it’s important to discuss Indigenous perspectives - check this out - Aboriginal Perspectives in Environmental Education: longneck-e.schools.nsw.gov.au/content/dam/do… How will you address cultural values in your lessons? #uonteach #Educ4750

@HalstvedtSharna Yes I totally agree! No I had no idea, I will have to look into that. That is certainly something the students would enjoy. We could even create a competition between classes or year groups to see who could recycle the most

This is a great initiative. I believe that we could potentially have multiple recycling programs in place throughout the school. Did you know you can also register your school for Return and Earn?
Imogen Slack-Smith@ImogenSlackSmi1

Hoping to utilise this amazing initiative within my school project! They mentioned on their website that one school involved was able to recycle enough soft plastics to create a bench seat. I wonder what my school will create? Maybe something for our garden? #SDG12 #Educ4750

@pettitt_phil @vegepod @evolvehousing @Dawe4Peter @DarrenMartin01 @BrendenMoore29 @facsnsw @RBGSydney I thought I would share this. As a new comer to worm farming I was blown away with the results of experimenting with worm tea on my lawn. 4 day results. It is like I painted the grass green!!

Composting is such an inexpensive way to reduce the need for chemical fertilisers and help retain soil moisture. Students should be encouraged to compost their food scraps but did you also know that cardboard, eggs shells and coffee grounds could be added to compost piles? #SDG12

Love that industrious and resourceful feeling when you sift your own hot compost pile to prepare the soil for spring planting #sustainable #harmony #composting #schoolgarden #naturedoesitbest

Thanks for sharing Lachlan. I would love to find ways to use VR to aid my students in exploring #SDG12 there are a multitude of virtual garden tours available online!Wouldn’t it be amazing to take our students on a tour of the Royal Botanic Gardens in England! #UoNTeach #Educ4750

AR/VR technology has the potential to contribute to sustainability both directly by making certain processes sustainable, and indirectly by encouraging people to adopt more sustainable lifestyles. #UonTeach #EDUC4750 #SDG14 Find out more below! virtualimmersive.com.au/post/how-ar-vr…

@PatrickMayers4 Yes that’s a great idea! I think the opportunity for students to participate in classroom discussions without the anxiety associated with interacting verbally is really important. It gives all students an equal opportunity to be heard. Do you know of any software we could use?

@ImogenSlackSmi1 Great Tweet Imogen! I think students would enjoy using a similar poll system within the classroom to gather statistics regarding #sustainable practices. What do you think?

@PatrickMayers4 I think it’s so important that as educators we lead by example and show students alternatives for plastic use. Have you heard of the Plastic Police? They help schools limit soft plastic use. They even offer a starter pack which you could implement at your school @bags2benches

How does this picture make you feel? For me I feel extremely guilty that I haven’t done more in terms of recycling and green waste. Did you know Australia generated 76 million tonnes of waste in the 2018-19 financial year?

@LachlanMcCabe4 Thanks Lachlan! It’s often the informal learning opportunities that lead to greater enjoyment and amplify creativity. There is no doubt that classroom displays enhance learning!

@ImogenSlackSmi1 This is an awesome idea Imogen! Similar to the old sticking the times tables chart on the toilet door strategy, this will definitely be educating your students without them even realising!

I will be decorating my classroom with these Sustainability posters so my students are always reminded of the importance of sustainable practices. What are some other ways we can reiterate to our students the importance of sustainability? #SDG12 bit.ly/3wGI1mK

@LachlanMcCabe4 Yes! My prac school had VR and AR capabilities within their library and I was so amazed by the focus and engagement shown by my normally easily distracted class of kindergarten students. They were exploring different animals within their natural habitats.
