Why does it take so long to get a job after graduation from college or university? A lack of good networking while in college is sometimes to blame. If you ask people who have enviable positions, many of them will tell you that they got their positions because of someone they knew. That’s networking. For some students, like me, who work full time while in college just to pay the bills, and who couldn’t afford the time to do internships, they leave college with a degree, but no connections to any jobs. They have to send resumes to places when they see job openings and just hope it gets to the person who can call them in for an interview. A lot of jobs are never even posted for the public to see. The person doing the hiring just asks for recommendations from his current employees. This happens a lot in education. When a teacher says they’re not coming back the next year, the principal usually asks that teacher or anyone else on the faculty if they know a good candidate for the position. Opening that position to the public is usually the second step, and sometimes just a formality. Most of us might or may face things like this. Copied.
