Crimson Desert first impressions: ✅️ Visuals - Stunning ✅️ world feels fully alive. Hustle and bustle in towns, everyone talking, everyone reacting - all very cool 😒 Combat - Fine, serviceable ❌️ Story & Characters - totally uninspiring and basic. Every conversation so far has been dull and emotionless, though I do enjoy how homo-erotic it all is 😂 ❌️ Controls - Messy. L1 + Square to jump? Guy runs like a mental patient. Radial menus not great, finicky. Nothing feels intuitive, like holding start and using d-pad to use quick menu ❌️ Learning things is a nice idea, just not a fan of standing still & staring at everything for 3 seconds to do so So far I'm feeling quite... meh, about it. I'll play more of course but I'm not excited to do so. I feel like the real enjoyment will kick in once the traversal options set in, like dragons and jetpacks. I'm only a few hours in, so hopefully it picks up soon, but it currently feels like a visually and mechanically impressive, but boring, updated Skyrim.

Crimson Desert now has 94 scored reviews on Metacritic. I’d be very curious to know how many of those 94 actually completed the game which should be a bare minimum requirement for press to score a game. My guess is not 94.

And btw, while we're on the topic since a lot of people are bringing it up. I love Dragon's Dogma 2. - Yes it had performance issues. - Yes the 'after game' could have been better But it was one hell of a ride and I loved it.

What kind of magic did Pearl Abyss pull off? This is easily one of the best‑looking games ever, and the draw distance on PC is on a completely different level. I’m genuinely shocked by how incredible Crimson Desert looks.

i am a journalist who’s covered crime and military and education and politics and the zero hand holding is the best part about crimson desert. it does feel like a classic CRPG realized in a dynamic and well animated massive world with lots of weird random interactions in towns.

@K__Med HDR is broken Control scheme is laughably bad Half the time the game says hold L1 and aim to jump I hold L1 and the blue dot does not appear and it locks me out of jumping. The graphics are trying to kill themselves The pop in is laughably horrid Fuck me, this feels like a joke

@iTrap4TheHokage Yes AC: V is about 10 times better feeling to play. The story is around 100 times better it seems. I’m struggling to keep playing. Controls are utter crap and the graphics are trying to commit suicide. HDR is so broken it’s almost hilarious to me.

I have discovered that individual pieces of paper you get from quests or as recipes actually take up a whole inventory slot in Crimson Desert and I just freed up 80 spots so I am deducting two points from my score

@LegacyKillaHD I predicted after the preview that this is one that game journalists will loathe. There is zero hand holding and even at the preview event I witnessed several journalists from big outlets getting stuck in the tutorial puzzle for 45 plus minutes...
