💬 “I was once asked (out of context) if my parents worked in the coal mines...I was also asked if I grew up in a council house.” Our research into accents and social mobility features stories from those who've been judged because of how they sound 🗣️⤵️ buff.ly/3FGZ2nF

@shadylady222 I noticed this when looking at homophones with year 7 and 'are' and 'our' came up. There were 3 pronunciations in the room for 'our': hour, air and are. 🤦‍♀️

Today I asked for examples of homophones. One student said ‘her and hur’. After much confusion on my behalf, he pointed at his head and said, ‘you know, hair’. Where I work, ‘hair’ is pronounced ‘hur’. Which got me thinking…homophones are actually pretty dependant on accent.

@SaysMiss Being a GCSE marker has improved my teaching of our Literature set texts and has improved my marking of assessments. Would definitely reccomend if teachers can make the time available.

Last week, I asked a form member of a picture of the pigs that live on her Grandad's allotment because who doesn't love animal content. She didn't dissapoint with an A4 photo of Pearl. 🐷 Pearl is now the class mascot and resides on the form board.🐖🌱

Took the nephew into Waterstone today to buy a book, of course I ended up with one for myself. A reimagining of Ariadne's story (the woman who save Theseus, but was left deserted on an island!). 📚 #GreekMythology #toreadpile
