@joshiswhoiam23 @Rothmus Exactly
Aluminum used to be a precious metal before the technology to refine it made it cheap and practical
We mass produce aluminum airliners now getting around the world takes hours not weeks
Mass producing aluminum cans was revolutionary cost reducer making life richer
English

People seem to think of this wrong. If we mined a asteroid like this gold would be worth less. Gold isn't valuable just because it's rare. It's useful. Imagine if gold was as cheap as copper. I'm sure we could find a use for it. Think of the value of iron. Now think of all the value of whatever it can be made into.
English

@gratuitoushygie @Rothmus Think of the new technologies that would be discovered if gold was cheap like aluminum is today
Aluminum used to be a rare precious metal
Today we mass produce aluminum jet airliners and beer cans
Humans are vastly richer with cheap aluminum
English

@Rothmus There is nothing wrong with the original tweet - It makes no statement on what a billion dollars would worth.
Take a goddamn critical thinking class.
English

@LastofLazarus @Rothmus We mass produce jet airliners and beer cans from aluminum
Modern civilization is built of aluminum
Computers in our pockets with information kings couldn’t find in the 1880s
They figured out how to smelt aluminum and we’re all richer by any measure
Think on it
English

@gurusamuel1 @Rothmus Imagine the technologies we might create that would never happen with scarcity
A new gold rush would increase overall wealth the way aluminum smelting technology did in the 1800s
Aluminum used to be rare and precious
Now we mass produce jet airliners and beer cans of aluminum
English

@Rothmus Actually it's enough gold to make manufacturing processes across the world so cheap that electronics and technology would bottom out in cost.
Do you know how efficient gold is when used in electronics, wiring, as a semiconductor, in processors, and in manufacturing in general?
English

@Rothmus That much gold would drive innovative technologies we haven’t seriously considered because scarcity
Years ago aluminum was more precious than gold as the tech to refine aluminum didn’t exist yet
From totally impractical to the framework of civilization
Keep open mind 🫶

English

@truthstreamnews @MatrixMysteries Purely disgusting
That cheap pile of glyphosate sugar is nothing but suffering and broken hearts
How much oil did it take to fill that dumpster with toxic garbage?
We have lost our way
English

@xenocosmography @avicennaquinas It’s weird how people focus on the few exceptions to a rule
as if that negates the larger truth
English

@avicennaquinas Not deliberately lying gets you a surprisingly long way.
English

Truth is usually the better alternative
Xenocosmography@xenocosmography
Tell the truth. Whatever cunning alternative heuristic you have is worse.
English

@Andrew94315 @xenocosmography There are exceptions to every rule
Doesn’t change the basic truth of truth
English

@xenocosmography There are some very easy to produce (and realistic) scenarios where telling the truth would be evil. We could say that most of us don't prioritise it enough and that conversation is actually interesting
