🌫🌫Muichiro Tokito is a genius swordsman. But he is not defined by that alone.
Not only are his sword skills extraordinary, but his level of thinking itself has already reached an exceptionally advanced stage — and he achieved this at only fourteen years old.
The moment I truly realized “this child is unbelievable” was during his conversation with Kotetsu.
In that scene, Muichiro coldly states that “the Hashira’s time and your time do not hold the same value.”
Harsh words follow afterward as well. However, what he says is fundamentally true. This is not simply cruelty. It is the very perspective required in organizations and society: understanding how limited time and human resources must be allocated. Muichiro already understands this at the age of fourteen.
He also showed concern during the Hashira meeting when Tanjiro Kamado interrupted Oyakata-sama, whose life was already short. What is important here is that Muichiro demonstrates this kind of detached, bird’s-eye thinking even while suffering from amnesia. One reason he stands apart from the others of his generation is precisely because he possesses this way of thinking.
“Meta-thinking” refers to the ability to observe problems and situations from a higher, objective perspective in order to grasp their essence. In other words, it is the ability to objectify even oneself and understand the whole situation without being ruled entirely by emotion.
Why am I bringing this up?
As I mentioned in the previous topic, Genya Shinazugawa chooses to risk his life for his brother — in other words, for an individual person. Meanwhile, Muichiro is capable of viewing even himself as a “piece on the board,” deriving the optimal solution for victory from a detached perspective.
That is where his extraordinariness lies.
Of course, meta-thinking can be cultivated through training to some extent. But Muichiro appears to perform it naturally, without being taught by anyone, and while still trapped in the incomplete state of amnesia. In that sense, his genius is not limited to swordsmanship alone — even his way of thinking seems innate.
When Muichiro lost his arm, he neither lamented nor screamed. Instead, he calmly analyzed the situation, objectively concluding that “unlike Uzui-san, my physique is smaller, so I will bleed to death within a few hours,” and immediately chose the best possible action available to him.
That is why, when Genya used the word “saigo” in the sense of “one’s final moments before death,” Muichiro was able to instantly respond with the same nuance.
He is capable of analyzing others just as calmly as he analyzes himself. Unlike Genya, he accepts his approaching death and continues fighting for entirely different reasons.
There is also an interpretation that this kind of “meta-thinking” could already be seen in Yoriichi Tsugikuni during childhood.
From a very young age, Yoriichi understood the environment he had been born into and deliberately pretended to be unable to speak. He also seemed to understand the scale of tragedy that would result from allowing Muzan Kibutsuji to escape.
He too was an unparalleled genius.
In that sense, I feel that Yoriichi and Muichiro are actually very similar.
