Increasingly thinking that Zcash's combination of privacy, quantum recoverability, a more modern codebase, a lower basis cost, and upcoming high throughput L1 changes are going to be a serious problem for Bitcoin. People say Bitcoin has "already won" because it has a high share of crypto market cap, but if you look at it differently Bitcoin is a super small % of all global finance and commerce. In no other industry would we call 2% market share a game over. The coins are also moving in opposite directions of usability. Over time, Bitcoin has become more expensive and slow to use on L1. Bitcoin may have overoptimized for the gold use case vs being usable every day. Zcash L1 is going the other direction. Zcash L1 at first was complicated, time consuming, and required trust. Now L1 doesn't require trust but is low TPS. With Tachyon L1 won't require trust and will be high TPS at low fees. I think the most important questions in crypto investing right now: - is it more important to be gold or cash? - if cash gets enough velocity does it replace gold? - will users value fungibility and privacy over straightforward verifiability? - how quickly can dynamics shift if the market sees a valid competitior to bitcoin emerge? All of this depends on Tachyon landing, sentiment staying strong, and Zcash organic growth continuing.

I read the entire report and found several parts of it mistaken. In one chart, you rank Monero and Aztec as less traceable than Zcash. That’s not true today. The clearest evidence is that Monero’s own developers are working toward Zcash style zero-knowledge proofs (a project called FCMP++, which the report itself covers). It doesn’t matter if an asset has “mandatory privacy” if it’s not actually private. It just functions as a honeypot. Every shielded Zcash tx is designed to look like every other. Every Aztec application introduces its own observable transaction fingerprint, creating additional opportunities for correlation and chain analysis. Saying Zcash has “compliant privacy” is also misleading. Zcash does not require users to touch transparent addresses at all. A user can receive, hold, mine, and spend entirely through the shielded pool. Apps like Zodl require funds to be shielded before spending even when they were initially received transparently. Finally, the reason “privacy coins” are up 127% is basically because Zcash carried the entire sector. It’s now the largest privacy coin by market cap and is up roughly 1200% over the last year. The other privacy coins weren’t even close. It was a Zcash rally, not a privacy coin rally.
