FIRST ON RADAR: Thousands of Facebook and Instagram accounts belonging to users in the Philippines, United States, and Canada were reportedly mass-disabled yesterday. Users whose accounts were disabled took to Reddit and X to report the seemingly coordinated wave of bans. The number of affected Facebook and Instagram accounts is estimated to be in the thousands. Accounts were logged out simultaneously at 1 pm local time on March 27. Users attempting to log in were met only with error pop-ups, with no option to change their passwords or appeal the ban on their accounts. Meta guidelines note that users should be able to appeal by logging in and submitting a request. Most of the impacted users had maintained active accounts for several years. Facebook and Instagram accounts with connected logins were both disabled. Many suspect that Meta’s artificial intelligence systems may have wrongly flagged accounts en masse, resulting in the wave of bans. Most of the impacted users report that their accounts have yet to be restored. Meta has not yet issued a statement on the matter. Report by Kiara Gorrospe #radarPHbusiness #radarPH

. @GMAnews @ABSCBNNews Many Facebook & Instagram accounts were suddenly disabled today around 1–2 PM without any clear reason. A lot of users lost access, including their linked IG accounts. This is affecting livelihoods. We need answers from @Meta. Please help raise awareness.
