He was merely accessing the situation. Jinxing is an illusional concept created by humans to use as coping mechanism when things don't go their way. Spock is not prone to this flaw.

The crew would not skip medicals if Doctor McCoy had any semblance of professionalism in his approach and followed protocol.

A certain degrees of stubbornness is necessary to achieve that which others are not determined enough to reach. The Admiral can certainly be considered a combination of both without insult.

Some call her personality "determined" while others call her "stubborn" but either way, it gets work done. The entire Enterprise crew does wonders for the Federation and their efforts of recent haven't gone unnoticed.

A most appreciated trait. He can see how she can raise morale by doing that.

Katrina will make sure there will be a second time, if needed. It's in her nature to do so. Well, when one does a good job it is her duty to commend them for it. Her own accolades, she can spare the fuss, but the best of Starfleet must continue to represent such ideals.

Well, no time like the present. The Admiral is aware of Spock's work and Captain Pike has kept her informed of his contributions to the Enterprise as well, before all of this. She's proud to have him as part of Starfleet, alongside that dear friend of hers.
