March 8 – Do Not Ignore the Trans, Lesbian, and Bisexual Women of Afghanistan! Today, as the world speaks of women's rights on International Women's Day, the voices of trans, lesbian, and bisexual women in Afghanistan are lost in this uproar. In the dark world of violence and fear imposed upon them, LGBTQ women in Afghanistan are not only dehumanized by the Taliban but also tortured, humiliated, and in many cases, murdered in silence. Over the past three years, the Taliban have systematically and brutally stripped LGBTQ women of their basic human rights. They have been publicly punished, imprisoned in terrifying jails, and many of them, including trans and lesbian women, have suffered brutal tortures such as gang rape, electric shocks, and other inhuman acts. Families have cast them onto the streets, and no one hears their cries of protest. The international community has remained silent in the face of these relentless crimes, closing its eyes to their pain and suffering. But we are here. We are alive. We continue to fight. We will not let anyone silence our voices. At Rainbow Afghanistan, on this International Women's Day, we shout with all our being: LGBTQ women of Afghanistan are not only a part of this struggle but also a part of this world. We stand, and we will continue to stand, until freedom, dignity, and human rights are realized for all, without discrimination.
