When I was teaching my partner how to play League my biggest issues for her was that bot games teach bad habits and isnt how the game is *actually* played. Then, when she played normals she's destroyed by higher elo players, or was griefed by people doing "prison games"

What riot should do about leveling/new accounts please read when you have time @RiotPhroxzon @drewlevin As a player that has played since season 1 and struggled to learn the game as back then there wasnt information on the game and the only way to learn was through friends which my friends were NOT good, I have thought a lot about how to improve player experience as ive seen lots of new players join and friends i know what would help them. I have also been through all meta changes so have a deep understanding of the game. All this was typed by me and might be pretty scatterbrained but i hope the point gets across and where not everything needs to be implemented i hope some of these ideas get across as they will be really helpful for the onboarding of newer players. First off make the entrance to playing ranked much smoother. currently it just feels like spamming games and that you have to fully understand the entire game to get to play ranked. it shouldnt have to be like this. You should have to put some time into the game to be able to play ranked other wise what is the point of even queuing ranked but theres no reason it needs to be 60+ hours of gameplay. Make it take 5-10 normal games to access ranked Riot already announced they want to create a division strictly for newer players, that even if players are better than iron will be placed in. so players like kadeem could theoretically be worse than players in this division but would still be higher than them. This allows players to get a better grasp of the game without getting forced into lobbies where players can strictly learn the game instead of worrying about winning. Players can still rank out of this if their improvement and skill is high Give all summoner spells from level 1. no flash being available till level 7 which is taken 99% of games makes no sense, restricting summoners doesnt prevent players from learning what they all do it just makes the learning curve longer. cant even take smite so jungling isnt possible till level 9? Make all champions accessible. It is insanity the game has been out for 17 years and somehow champions take 1000 hours of gameplay to unlock all. Newer players have no idea what champions they like and aside from practice tool (which is not a real test for champion feel) there is no way to know which champions you will favor, and this also feeds into not knowing what role you will want to play. Letting players access all champions will make the game feel less grindy and more accessible to newer players, also to the benefit of riot people only can buy skins for champions they have played! underneath VERY IMPORTANT for growth of the game If added ranked tier under iron should have a smart-tutorial or basically built in coaching to the game (would need better detection of smurfs to guarantee this rank is only newer players which is why 5-10 game norm minimum is important) first off keep last hit detector and turret range on for this game mode. Now this is probably hard to build but it would really help players learn the game and not feel like they are being thrown to the wolves. game can give voiceovers or popups for tips. Newer players have 0 idea what they should even be looking to do and there is way too much noise in the game and without videos or trying to understand what youre looking for it is impossible to learn without beating your head into a wall a million times. the game should push you in a specific direction that is easy to understand and teaches fundamentals. There is too much for newer players to focus on, highlighting the guided tools for newer players isnt enough. they should almost feel forced to play the game a specific way until they understand how to be dynamic and make decisions which would come after getting out of this beginner rank or even iron if it seems needed for that tier as well. This will let them focus on other things that matter more than things they cant even understand how to make the decisions for yet. can slowly get rid of these crutches as they progress depending on rank or whatever metric so its not a sudden change from iron to bronze. starting with more of the basic changes im suggesting. i think autoleveling and autobuying should stay through iron through as this takes too much processing from players in the game First thing should be runes/summoner spells and skills should be autoleveled. autoleveled spells can stop at level 6 or go all the way to 18, probably 18 is better. obviously this should be able to be turned off if the player wants to Items are too confusing for newer players to grasp, they dont understand that items give you stats and what they really do, they think the items attach to your character or something. its also too hard to know what items you should buy and newer players spend 30 seconds in base each recall buying new items. even with a recommended tab its too hard for newer players to understand shopping. just auto buy for them either when they recall or when they open shop but make it very clear what is happening. Give players a guide for when to recall, this should be shown VERY VIVIDLY and not just a highlighted recall icon. This can be understood with champion hp, wave state, gold count etc. If player has enough gold for item component that would be helpful and wave is under enemy tower force them to recall. even if its not the most beneficial recall they will learn that its pretty good to recall on item spikes and when wave crashes. If game can identify slow pushes you can even tell players to recall without a wave crash, im not sure if this would be detectable but it would be cool and impactful if it could. Of course you cant always crash the wave so if the game can understand the tradeoff of losing minions to regen your hp if its an impossible lane state can also push for a recall. Can push this idea farther with objectives as well as players dont understand doing objectives. can try to push players to start objectives when their wave crashes into enemy turret and jungler is on that side of the map. of course consider levels, items, and players gold in pocket as before level 6 it probably shouldnt be pushed cause of how long it takes and if youre sitting on a lot of gold there is the detriment of not being able to buy items. so the game can check for these conditions before pushing for objectives. This is also possible for jungle and should be encouraged as jungle is probably the highest learning curve for a brand new player. even with highlighted camps on the map players dont understnad wher they should walk. again there is too much information in the game for newer players to look at they need to be guided and forced to play a specific way. just force a jungler to start top buff and use arrows near their character to guide them to their next camp which should be in a sequence. after their full clear the game can consider enemy positions in nearby lanes and highlight possible to gank lanes or even show an arrow to the lane as well. should only do this when all camps are killed as it makes it easier for newer players to not have to worry about choosing ganks over camps. if no lane looks overextended the game should tell you to recall. again game could also point you to objective if you have prio in adjacent lanes. can take slow push a step further with jungle and if jungler is nearby a lane that is slow pushing can highlight it as gankable even if its not overextended because of slow push. Highlight suggested ward placements for players when overextended or for supports with popular ward areas depending on objective spawning This might be controversial and doesnt need to be added but it came to mind and should be considered. Its possible that in these beginner ranks or even iron that enemy wards should show on the map and the vision they would give. this helps newer players understand how vision works and how to play around it as otherwise they dont even know how to learn it or that it even exists. not sure how exactly this woudl work though because its a lot of visual clutter on map with this if you highlight it red like faelights. if it is too much visual clutter can also just show "was spotted on enemy vision" this way its not completely game warping but still gives the idea of playing around enemy vision and teaches players that vision even exists in the game. Show enemy summoner spell and ult cooldowns on tab press. Yes this is broken but again players cant learn how to punish enemy being down resources without it clearly being shown to them. the entire point of this new rank and iron should be to TEACH the players. yes its a bit game warping but they will learn and be able to understand the game better once they get out and will enjoy it 100x more. Turn off chat for these ranks. toxicity in early stages of the game will harm player experience and even though it does in higher ranks people are more prone to it when they are first learning a game Simplify ability descriptions with more generic descriptions that can be toggled to be full, players wont understand what a spell does reading it all and they dont need to know all modifiers and passives. example for MF "You shoot a target, then the bullet bounces to a second nearby enemy behind them and does extra damage" yes this isnt perfect and doesnt describe minion or champ needs executed for it to do bonus but they will learn this as they improve and this will be auto toggled off as they rank up. this is easier for newer players to learn champions quickly and being able to focus on learning the game instead. At the end of game if the system works as intended can count how often players did suggested plays that worked well, easiest example is recalls. when game suggests recall you can count how many times player recalled with wave crashed or item spike. can also count how many times player recalled and lost minions or didnt buy anything big. this will train players to get better at recall timing which is a very important fundamental for every role and will drastically improve their gameplay. When game guides you to recall or do an objective or gank explain as well as having arrows or forcing you to do it WHY the game is suggesting you to do it (wave crash, gold count, hp bar, prio etc). when game is buying items explain why it is building these items, not sure if this one is good though as it might be annoying and excessive. but can explain enemy team has high attack damage so building armor as a tank champion stuff like this. End of game suggestions, for jungle game can track clear speed compared to other players, especially if players are getting 24 cs a lot slower than most champs would or after scuttle spawns. end of game can suggest what to improve on like clear speed. if kp is low can suggest ganking more. if deaths are high can suggest playing safer. Give mini goals - goals in the game that would entice players to play specific strategies higher elo players implement without being over the top and too much. for instance "get level 2 first before lane opponent" this makes players challenge each other to hit level 2 which is important gameplay identity. "recall with 1000 gold on first back" etc etc other stuff like this would be nice. maybe for jungle can add "get 24 cs before " "get first neutral objective of the game" most of these ideas can be slowly regressed from fully almost forced gameplay with arrows and prompts. then regress to just suggested tips, to completely removed when deemed necessary at some rank value.
