#ElectricBlanket Essex Fire were recently called to an incident where an electric blanket had caught fire. It is important to be aware of these hazards, to check your blanket for signs of wear-and-tear, and to avoid leaving it on when you are sleeping or away from your room.

Last night our Firefighters did a gruelling physical drill while wearing full breathing-apparatus.
Once the drill was complete the aim was to conserve air by breathing calmly for as long as possible, to simulate becoming stuck and having to wait for a rescue crew.

And exciting new fire engine is being used in Devon & Somerset. The smaller appliance is designed to reduce arrival time by being more maneuverable and quick, while still providing all the essential equipment a crew may need.

The first breathing apparatus came in 1863, when James Braidwood put two canvas bags together lined with rubber. The airtight sac was worn on the firefighter's back and secured with shoulder straps and a waist belt. Firefighters also wore goggles, a hood, a nose clamp.
