How many of you prefer "towards" over "toward"?
This is the most common word I change across all manuscripts I've worked on for American publishing. It's one of those things hardly anyone considers since both are technically correct, but American standard doesn't use the "s"!

Cats do not respect writing time.

In a lesson for our freebie course, I mention that cats can be loud and adamant in their requests for attention, thereby completely disturbing writing time. This was not based on imagination. How does your cat interrupt you? Mine meows and acts like a dolphin.
