The EU's General Court dismissed Apple's challenge to its gatekeeper designation last week. Apple argued it runs five App Stores, one for each device, and only the iOS one was big enough to qualify. The judges said they all do the same thing and brought them all under the Digital Markets Act. In May, AEI's Bronwyn Howell read the Commission's own review of the law, which found it fit for purpose and proposed no changes. The review relied on stakeholder submissions but included no apparent input from regulated companies or consideration of research finding that the DMA had chilled innovation. Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney says Steam is missing out on millions of PC players because it doesn’t have games like Fortnite, Riot Games titles, or Genshin Impact. Sweeney said Valve has “a nice thing going on on PC,” but added that Steam is “missing out on a lot of opportunity” by not having those games available on the platform. Sweeney also said Epic wants to work with Valve in the future, explaining, “We would love to interoperate with every company willing and to connect all the gamers.”









No huge surprise found with Apple lobbying the Trump administration to buy Chinese memory from CXMT / YMTC (via the FT). People underestimating just how bad the memory crisis is in terms of production shortfall and resulting fallout. However, I don’t think a CXMT would be Apple's long-term goal. Instead, it would be a near-term solution.
