My take on the popping off dramas
TCG: Drawing your 6th prize card wins you the game, not drawing an ultra ball. popped off too early without finishing the play. The loss was deserved.
Go: patiently waited until he actually won, then popped off, respectfuly. Loss not deserved

People shouldn't immediately jump on the narrative that Cerys rule sharked Makani. Makani being the first to comment on it feels like a blatant attempt to get ahold of the narrative. He knows Pokemon won't publicly comment on the penalty, discourse turns into his word vs hers
