Nicole, a Journeyperson & Insulator of five years, shares how joining the union changed her life. “Being in the trade & the union has been life changing. I had always wanted to get into the trade, but life happens. It's given me a financial freedom I’ve never had before. I’ve also been blessed to meet & work along side some amazing people. It’s also pushed me to get out of my comfort zone & do things I never thought I would. Being apart of the union, I feel like I’m being looked out for & I don’t have to fight for a fair wage.”

Kyle Congrove Vice President of Local 84, out of Akron & Youngstown, Ohio, shares how joining the union changed his life. 💪 “I joined Local 84 in 2006, fresh out of high school & full of attitude. I wasn’t a hard worker — I was a know-it-all kid who didn’t know much. My favorite phrase was “I know,” & one journeyman finally snapped: “If you knew, I wouldn’t have to explain it to your hard-headed self.” That line stuck. It still does. I didn’t just need training — I needed growing up. Somehow, a few old timers & younger members saw something in me worth saving. They didn’t coddle me. They challenged me. They showed me how to shut up, show up, & earn it. That second chance changed everything. I’ve since served as JATF member, Sergeant-at-Arms, e-board, & now Vice President. I tell every apprentice: this union will give you what you’re willing to fight for. It didn’t just give me a career — it gave me a life worth living. I’ll never stop being grateful.” #InsulatorsUnion #Insulators #InsulatorPride #UnionStrong

True leadership recognized⭐️ Hear from John Dwyer, Local 32 Business Manager & Local Union Labor Leader of the Year Award honoree, on his impactful career in the union. “After high school graduation, I worked for over 10 years as a carpenter in the building & renovation field. During that time, I started my own construction business & completed my associate's degree at Union County College at night. In 1990 & newly married, I was looking for a more secure future with steady work & benefits. My father encouraged me to join Insulators Local 32. I grew up in a union family & knew what it meant belonging to a brotherhood. I started my career as a proud third generation insulator following my father & gr&father. My father, John Dwyer, Sr. was a member of Insulators Local 32 for his entire career, later serving as Financial Secretary. Many other relatives were members of Local 32, including my twin brother Jimmy Dwyer, my uncle James Dwyer, & other uncles & cousins. I worked for over 25 years in the field & became more involved with my local. I served on the Executive Board for many years & as Vice President & President. In 2015 l had the opportunity to run for Business Agent & served until 2019. I then ran for Business Manager & still hold that position today. Over the years I've continued with my love for carpentry. I enjoy freshwater & saltwater fishing during the spring & summer. I also enjoy snowmobiling in the Adirondacks with family in the winter.”

Winning hearts, minds & a car! 🚘 Hear from Local 86 Business Manager, Bryan “Matt” Berlin on how they reignited their Member Appreciation Dinner: “Our fellow Tennessee Local, Local 46, has it in their bylaws, upon purchasing a new vehicle for the local, they raffle off the old car to the membership. I pitched this idea to our executive board: “the members paid for the car, let’s give it back to the members!” Everyone agreed. On the night of the dinner, we had standing room only! It was such an awesome sight to see all the members having a great time. At the adjournment of the meeting, we got to the raffle of the car! We did a reverse raffle. Every member in good standing, received a free ticket, signed it, & dropped it in the box. We pulled the tickets one by one until the last ticket in the box was left & that member won the car. The car was a 2020 Ford Fusion — fully detailed, freshly serviced, tires with only 5,000 miles on them & with a full tank of gas. When she won, Journeywoman Megan Gibb, was so shocked that the smile on her face was priceless! It was the high point of a tremendous night.   This dinner is something we plan to do every year at our April union meetings. We won’t be giving a car away every year, but the food & fellowship will be there!” 🔗Read more on pages 22-23: bit.ly/HFIAW-SummerJo… #InsulatorsUnion #Insulators #InsulatorPride #UnionStrong
