In 2000, I transferred to the Naperville Sun, a 3-times weekly paper with a handful of suburban weeklies. The newsroom staff was 100 people. The profitable weeklies were closed by moron bosses. The Naperville Sun has one editor and one reporter now.

Quite revealing that people think I’m talking about the Times, when my whole point is that these weren’t national papers. Miami used to have several independent daily papers. The Baltimore Sun had multiple foreign bureaus. The Morning Call in Allentown, PA, employed 1,000 people.

NEW: Media News Group announced on Monday that it is selling The Detroit News to USA Today Co., the largest newspaper owner in the U.S. and owner of the Detroit Free Press.
The company has said it will not honor Guild members’ current contract.

The Book of Faces: You have mutuals there, so you don’t say a word. But they take something personally that had nothing to do with them so you’re unfriended snd blocked. Meanwhile a mutual posts photos of them that hurt to see.

TODAY: The @PittsburghPG lost again. This time as the U.S. 3rd Circuit Court rejected a request to rehear the case in which it ordered the PG to pay workers back for the costs it illegally passed onto us, & restore the contract.
Even w/ the closure, the owners are on the hook.

I went to talk to a small business owner and thought of him. I said something about intergenerational differences…and thought of him. It’s hard to find a light explanation for tearing up in public.

I finally got an explanation for his radio silence. All workable stuff, eventually.
But then it became clear that today is not that day when he unfriended me on the book of faces after taking something I’ve said a million times as a direct attack. My real friend knows better.

How am I doing on my break with my bestie that’s hopefully not a breakup?
Mostly OK and I woke up Monday with more hope than I’ve had in weeks. But mostly more up and down than the weather in my state!
