The U.S. just committed $2B to quantum computing — and took equity stakes in 9 companies. 💰 This isn't a grant. Taxpayers share in the upside if it works. 🇺🇸 Today I'm breaking down what this means for the market. Druckenmiller's Big Bet on Argentine Oil: YPF $YPF Stan "The Man" Druckenmiller just made one of his biggest macro bets in years, and it has nothing to do with the Middle East. In his latest 13F filing, Druckenmiller revealed he bought more than 2.5 million shares of Argentine oil and gas producer YPF $YPF, adding to a position he started the previous quarter. It is now one of his largest holdings. This matters because Druck is widely considered one of the greatest investors alive. He reportedly delivered 30% annual returns for 30 years with no down year. When he makes a concentrated bet, it pays to look closely. YPF is the dominant operator in Argentina's Vaca Muerta shale basin, one of the most promising oil and gas fields in the world. The geology rivals the best US shale plays, and the location outside the Middle East is a major strategic positive as investors search for energy supply that sits well away from geopolitical hot spots. The second leg of the trade is Argentina itself. After 50 years as an economic basket case, the country elected Javier Milei in 2023. He has been pushing pro-business reforms that could turn Argentina into a real place to do business and develop large new oil reserves. YPF is not the only way to play this. Vista Energy $VIST, a roughly $7 billion market cap producer, also operates in the Vaca Muerta and could see a sizable revaluation if exploration succeeds and Milei's reforms continue to take hold. When a 30-year, 30%-a-year investor goes this concentrated, it is worth paying attention.

Spooky stat. Inflation has averaged +0.4 MoM over the last 6 months. If that trend persists, we'll be at a 5.2% inflation rate by November. That’s high enough to crush the consumer and keep $HD $PG $MA $WFC $MCD $UL $MELI $NKE $RACE $AZO $LULU and other consumer stocks in the dumps. But it probably isn't high enough to cripple the AI trade and end the rally in $TSM $AVGO $ASML $LRCX $AMAT $DELL $CRWV $APLD $GEV $PWR and other red-hot AI stocks. That changes when the spending stops. And spending won’t stop for an inflation pit-stop at 5%. But if we stay above 5% for a few months, then I'd be worried. As an AI bull, I'm not bothered by current inflation trends. But if they prove sticky beyond the next few months, then I’ll get worried.

The crack spread is the gap between what refiners pay for crude and what they sell fuel for. 🛢️ When that gap widens, refiners print money. 💰 Right now three things are lining up at once. Despite AI stocks dropping today, here's a fresh batch of good fundamental news supporting the thesis that this is just a technical sell-off that will end with AI stocks snapping back into rally mode soon, not something more sinister: - $BIDU reported that its AI sales eclipsed its legacy ads sales for the first time this past quarter, with AI revenues rising 40% year-over-year. - $D + $NEE merging in a sign that the AI power crunch is very real, very big thing that will require lots of investment in new energy infrastructure. - $STLA + $ACN announced a new AI-driven manufacturing plan built on top of $NVDA tech - The Pope is launching his encyclical on AI with the co-founder of Anthropic - Citadel CEO Ken Griffin said that AI agents are now doing PhD-level finance work in days instead of months The AI Boom rolls on. Short-term pullbacks are buying opportunities.

Nebius $NBIS Just Confirmed the Neocloud Boom Is Real Last Wednesday, Nebius Group $NBIS dropped Q1 earnings that should grab every AI investor's attention: revenue up 684% year over year. The stock ripped 18% to a fresh all-time high, and it is now up 40% in the past month, a 480% annualized pace. Nebius is one of the purest plays on what we have been calling the neocloud theme. These are companies that own and operate data centers purpose-built for AI workloads, not the general-purpose infrastructure you get from traditional hyperscalers. The customer list tells the story. Microsoft $MSFT and Meta $META are already writing big checks to neoclouds because their own capacity cannot keep up with demand. Management said it plainly on the call. Compute and cloud needs are vastly exceeding capacity as more industries embrace AI. That is not marketing language. That is a company watching customers line up at the door faster than it can build racks. Step back and the macro picture is staggering. Big tech is on pace to spend more than $700 billion on AI infrastructure this year, and the bottleneck is still compute. When the biggest, best-capitalized buyers in the world are short on supply, the suppliers get pricing power and growth that bends the chart. $NBIS is the headline name today, but the theme runs deeper. CoreWeave $CRWV and Iren $IREN are right behind it, and a wave of soon-to-be neoclouds is lining up to capture a piece of that $700 billion spend. This is one of the cleanest setups in the market right now, and the move is just getting started.
