The Red Cross has opened a shelter in the gym of the old DMU campus located at 3200 Grand Ave. in Des Moines. The shelter is staffed with trained Red Cross volunteers ready to provide care and comfort to those affected by the apartment fire on Caulder Ave.

Our hearts are with those affected by the apartment fire in Des Moines tonight. We've opened a reception center for those impacted at Pioneer Columbus Community Recreation Center, 2100 SE 5th St. Meals will be provided, and trained Red Cross volunteers are available for support.
