The sex offender, the character reference and the formerTD who has now gone to ground - ✍️ Catherine Fegan
When the former TD's wife answered the door of his home to the Irish Independent this week, she appeared shaken and said he was not in. She would not say where he was, when he would be back or how to get hold of him.
"He's out of politics," she said as she stood in the doorway.
For the past two weeks, the identity of a TD who wrote the reference for sex offender Daniel Ramamoorthy has been the subject of intense public debate.
Former Fine Gael ministers Richard Bruton and John Perry responded immediately to queries, saying they did not know #Ramamoorthy and certainly did not provide him with a character reterence.
But another former TD is not as forthcoming. The ex-TD knows Ramamoorthy personally and has engaged with him in the past. Legal sources have pointed towards this ex-Dáil deputy, saying he is believed to be the author of the character reference.

A smorgasbord of abuse - including a threat against my family - in response to this report.
I hope those commenters and DMers never have to endure that kind of treatment for just doing their jobs, if they ever get jobs.

@EO_Halloran @TearsoftheKing4 Your about to realize your on the wrong side
English

@TearsoftheKing4 Yes before the cuts. I'm talking about after the cuts right now taxes are about 50%
English

To be clear Ireland currently taxes ~50% of fuel after cutting excise duties. That's now below the EU average of 52%
Anyone claiming it's 65% is just repeating a misinformed statement. And that misinformation is fueling what these protests think can be achieved

@MartinXTweets Government already cut excise duty 3 weeks ago. This chart is out of date

Hey @TRobinsonNewEra . I’m told you have huge influence over Irish farmers and truckers. considering your immense power I was wondering if you get my son to clean his room and get off Call of Duty 3. His name is Matthew.
I’d really appreciate it. Thanks so much.

Minister for Justice Jim O'Callaghan says fuel protesters are being influenced by external figures, urging them to recognise the impact of their actions. He referenced Tommy Robinson as an example of those seeking to use the protests to advance their own agenda. #VMNews

Can’t afford to fill their tanks, but no problem spending €100’s in diesel on a slow drive to Dublin. No consideration for the 100’s of thousands of lives they fcuked today. Arrest the lot of em if they’re still here in the morning #fuelprotest

The lawyers said "IF THE FOOTAGE OF THE ATTACK IS RELEASED THERE WOULD BE RIOTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY"
This is horrifying. Listen to her words.

Jimmy Carr's bold take on NHS staffing: "We're robbing young people of their dream of being doctors and nurses by importing cheaper ones from overseas."
He calls for scrapping med school quotas (currently ~11k/year)—admit anyone hitting academic standards, no interviews ("If you're not personable, work in the morgue"). Argues pulling doctors from places like Bangladesh/Pakistan/Afghanistan hurts those nations too (they haven't "run out of sick people").
Bottom line: Train more locals long-term; reallocate from non-essential courses if needed.
This 1:49 clip mixes humor with a provocative fix for shortages and global brain drain.
Does expanding UK med schools + prioritizing local talent solve NHS issues?
Ever felt your career dreams limited by quotas or imports?
What budget shift (if any) would you make for better "societal investment"?
Open views from all angles—no heat, just real discussion.

🚨 HOLY CRAP. This actually just happened on Capitol Hill.
SEN. JOSH HAWLEY: "Can men get pregnant?"
LIBERAL DR. VERMA: "I'm not sure what the goal of the question is."
HAWLEY: "The goal is to establish a biological reality. Can men get pregnant?"
VERMA: "I take care of people with many identities."
HAWLEY: "Can men get pregnant?"
VERMA: "Again, as I'm saying-"
HAWLEY: "You said science and evidence should control. Can men get pregnant? You're a doctor, I think."
VERMA: "Science and evidence should guide medicine."
HAWLEY: "Do science and evidence tell us that men can get pregnant?"
VERMA: "I think yes-no questions like this are a political tool."
WOW. 🤯🤯🤯 @HawleyMO
