Taylor Swift praises sombr to NYT: “I’m a massive sombr fan, of his songwriting. And his lyrics are so intensely confessional. ‘I don’t want another man’s child to have the eyes of the girl I can’t forget.’ Are you kidding me? Having a male artist say stuff like that is really good for the cause of women to be able to say stuff. If there’s any way we can make confessional songwriting a little bit more of something that isn’t, like, people take that as like you were being messy. You have to be fair to everyone then.”

what’s stood out to me the most about taylor’s interview is the fact that she specifically says it’s her fans that meticulously dissect every aspect of her songs and life and make things weird. not just people, but her own fans. i think that’s embarrassing and explains the way she has distanced herself from us and the internet. what we do to her art is clearly very uncomfortable for her and has never been what she wants us to do. i think it’s very important that as her fans we reflect on that and be better to taylor going forward.
