Last night, we set aside an evening in Kyiv to mark St Patrick’s Day and recognise Irish-Ukrainian friendship 🇮🇪🤝🇺🇦🇪🇺 With Ambassador Jonathan Conlon, it was a privilege to welcome the small Irish community, and friends, to the first official St Patrick’s Day reception in Kyiv.

Together with @IgorZhovkva I was pleased to welcome @ThomasByrneTD, Ireland’s Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence, to Kyiv. Ireland remains a principled and reliable partner of Ukraine. Grateful for Ireland’s political, humanitarian, and defence support. We discussed strengthening our partnership and advancing Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. While Russia weaponises temperatures of minus 25 C in Ukraine, we saw workers making heroic efforts to repair heating lines, welding holes caused by shrapnel. As announced by Minister @HMcEntee last week, Ireland is providing €25m to support Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

Today, Amb. Conlon joined Deputy PM Oleksiy Kuleba & the diplomatic community at Darnytska CHP that used to provide heat to some 500,000 Kyiv residents. 20 Russian missiles since the start of the heating season - 5 yesterday alone - have caused devastating damage.

Grateful to my friend @HMcEntee and the Government of Ireland for approving €25 million in support of Ukraine's energy infrastructure. This vital contribution comes at a critical time, as communities across Ukraine endure heating outages caused by Russian attacks during one of the harshest winters in years.
