🇬🇪 #Georgia’s Independence Day is being marked by a mass protest in #Tbilisi organised by an Opposition Alliance comprising nine political parties. People gathered near Tbilisi State University before marching to the Parliament building, where daily #GeorgiaProtests have been taking place since 28 November 2024, the day Georgian Dream Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced that Georgia’s #EU accession process would be "removed from the government’s agenda until the end of 2028".

🟥 On April 24, Tbilisi City Court terminated proceedings in yet another defamation lawsuit filed by journalist Mzia Amaglobeli against Georgian Dream Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze. 🟥 The hearing took place in Kobakhidze’s absence. Neither he nor his representative attended court, and no written defence was submitted, despite the fact that the lawsuit had been served on 17 December 2025. 🟥 The case concerned statements made by Kobakhidze in 2025 on pro-GD broadcasters Imedi TV, Rustavi 2, and the Georgian Public Broadcaster. 🟥 Amaglobeli argued that the statements falsely portrayed her as a criminal, a political activist, and a person acting under “foreign orders,” violating the presumption of innocence and damaging her reputation. 🟥 She requested that Kobakhidze retract the statements, which she said were factually false and harmful to her professional standing as a journalist. 🔴 A documentary photo exhibition, “Georgia in Focus,” has opened at the @eu_eeas in Brussels. It features works by Georgian photographers who received the EU Prize for Journalism between 2015 and 2025. The central part of the exhibition is dedicated to a courtroom photograph of Sakharov Prize laureate Mzia Amaglobeli, founder of @netgazeti and Batumelebi. ⭕ Journalist @GuramRogava addressed the audience, speaking about the threats facing the media in Georgia. Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II, has been laid to rest at the Patriarchal Cathedral of Sioni. Patriarch Ilia II passed away on March 17 at the age of 93. He led the Georgian Orthodox Church for nearly half a century-49 years-making him the longest-serving patriarch since the restoration of the Church’s autocephaly in 1917. Following his passing, thousands of people gathered over five days at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, where he lay in state, to pay their final respects. Continuous lines of mourners formed as the faithful came to honor the late patriarch.

However it’s not yet known who has been granted pardons. 🔴 Malkhaz Amaglobeli, the brother of Georgian journalist Mzia Amaglobeli, spent the night outside Rustavi Women’s Prison. 📌 As lawyers explained, once pardons are issued, they are sent for immediate execution, and prisons are not legally required to notify families.
