Search for 历史虚无主义/Historical nihilism, 架空/Jiakong/Fictional Setting, 原型/historical prototype. eg The Longest Day in Changan set in real Tang history changed most of the real names.

@blankernights @ziospell @dailykusuriya Yes, but if they are interacting with historical figures, their depictions (personality + fate) must not deviate from accepted history. Even games run afoul of this broad regulation, such as Fate Grand/Order replacing Chinese figures with generic ID numbers.

It seems heavyhanded, but the same NRTA says crime-related shows must end with the perps getting punished, or they will be seen as "instigating"

@blankernights @ziospell @dailykusuriya To clarify, Huo Qubing wasn't the one that sparked it. Your examples: Empresses and Yanxi, it was their immense popularity (2019) that got the NRTA paying more attention to such period shows. Only recently (2025) the rules got relaxed.
