Let's truly hope that US (and Iranian) military commanders are more sane that their political leaders and will defy any orders to breach international law. In case sanity does not prevail, maybe self-interest will? A quick reminder to to all serving members of the military: 'Just following orders' is no defence to war crimes. If you commit, or order grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions, you will be held individually responsible, and every state in the world will have an obligation to prosecute you, or extradite you to face justice.

This is a threat of genocide and merits removal from office. The President’s mental faculties are collapsing and cannot be trusted. To every individual in the President’s chain of command: You have a duty to refuse illegal orders. That includes carrying out this threat.

All States must act now to stop this. Soldiers must refuse unlawful orders. Members of Congress must call for impeachment and removal. Every American who loves their country must speak out. Enough is enough.

And of course, this is clearly a threat to commit crimes against humanity and war crimes. The US chain of command must refuse illegal orders and third state have clear legal duties of non-assistance. They must demand an end to the war and a return to international law.

This is our God: Jesus, King of Peace, who rejects war, whom no one can use to justify war. He does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war, but rejects them, saying: “Even though you make many prayers, I will not listen: your hands are full of blood” (Is 1:15).

10/ And the most fundamental thing: end this illegal war. The fallout already in the pipeline must be addressed urgently. Governments must use every lever available — not let the shocks ripple through our economies and rip apart our societies.

On behalf of the Christians of the #MiddleEast, and of all women and men of good will, I appeal to those responsible for this conflict: cease fire! May paths of dialogue be reopened! Violence can never lead to the justice, stability and peace for which the peoples are waiting.

Ok, lots of people in replies seem to think that their range of action is limited to protesting or voting. That by itself is upsetting. Not that there is anything wrong with either protesting or voting, both are good, but organising for counter-power means going WAY further. 🤦‍♀️
