The Continuing Incarceration Of @elrufai By The Regime Through @icpcnigeria ( 79 Days & Still Counting )
Dear @sanjsokutepa
Cc: @iyaboawokoya
It’s with utmost respect for your patriotism and advocacy for the rule of law in Nigeria that I reach out to you this evening
Please is there any way or any provision in our law books that any Nigerian not necessarily the family of Mallam @elrufai can challenge the regime for his continuing detention despite the fact that the charges against him are bailable?
On the 14th April 2026 at the Kaduna State High Court Justice Darius Hyet Khobo informed the court that the ruling on the defendant bail application was not ready citing “his inability to conclude the writing of the decision”👀👀
He subsequently adjourned to Tuesday 21st April 2026 for the delivery of the ruling, this was reported by @icpcnigeria
But in a shocking and sudden turn of events when the matter came up on the 21st April 2026, the judge again denied @elrufai bail based on “concerns that the defendant could interfere with investigations”
This is a case that has been under investigation for more than two years and it will be recalled @elrufai willingly reported to the @officialEFCC and the @icpcnigeria in fulfillment of his promise to come back from Egypt to face the charges against him………..I am just curious because there is no evidence he had interfered with the investigation
I just came across another report this evening suggesting the @icpcnigeria has once again opposed a fresh bail application by @elrufai and the court has adjourned hearing to May 13th 2026 in what is increasingly looking like political persecution by every definition of the word
According to the reports counsel to the @icpcnigeria Ibrahim Mukhtar filed a counter-affidavit in opposition to the fresh bail application
For context
- Mallam @elrufai left his mother in the hospital in Egypt to avail himself to the investigative agencies in Nigeria, his mother unfortunately passed away in his absence while in detention
(may Allah continue to bless her soul with Aljanna Firdaus )
- Mallam @elrufai spent the whole Ramadan in detention
- He spent his Eid al-Fitr in the @icpcnigeria detention
- He was later released for few days to bury his mum
- Mallam @elrufai returned to the @icpcnigeria detention facilities without coercion from the agency
How can the whole country just keep quiet like if this situation is normal, something we all accused military dictators of doing and the reason for choosing the democratic form of governance and being guided by rule of law that guarantee the liberty of every Nigerian

@FahadKano I know both of them personally. I will choose Gwamna over Pantami 100 times. Why? That’s a discussion for another day.

Gombe is my second home, and it has a history of electing good governors. Unfortunately, Governor Inuwa Yahya has chosen Isyaku Gwamna, who is said to have been involved in the mismanagement of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company when he was MD, over an academic and successful politician, Prof. Ali Pantami, a former minister.
The same way some people believe he performed poorly while serving as MD of KEDCO, critics argue that he may not be suitable for governor in Gombe State. The state deserves better, and the likes of Prof. Pantami should rule the state.

@PeterObi Nigerians are not just looking for inspiring words, we are looking for consistency, stability, and a clear path to victory.

"The condition of our nation and the urgent need to rescue Nigeria, informed my decision to leave ADC for NDC."
Yesterday, I formally joined the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), alongside my dear brother, Engr. Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, with one clear purpose: to continue the struggle for a new Nigeria built on justice, competence, accountability, and compassion for the ordinary Nigerian.
As I stated yesterday, this decision was not made out of anger, personal ambition, or convenience. It came after deep reflection on the present condition of our nation and the urgent need to rescue Nigeria from the dangerous path it is currently heading.
Over the years, I have remained steadfast in my conviction that politics should never be about individuals, positions, or personal gain. It must be about the people, especially the millions of Nigerians who today can no longer afford necessities, whose businesses are collapsing, whose children are losing hope, and whose future is becoming increasingly uncertain.
I left the ADC for the same reason I left the Labour Party: the severe, orchestrated litigation and internal crises deliberately designed to ensure that I, alongside many other notable individuals, do not effectively participate in the electoral process. I sincerely appreciate and remain deeply grateful to the Leadership of ADC for the opportunity to work together in pursuit of a better Nigeria. I am particularly grateful to ADC Chairman Senator David Mark for his exceptional Leadership. I also deeply appreciate my Leader and elder brother YE, Atiku Abubakar, as well as other respected leaders within the party.
As we join the NDC, I sincerely appeal to the Nigerian Government against the encouragement of unresolved litigations and the infusion of crises within political parties. Democracy must never become a weapon against the people. A healthy democracy thrives on strong institutions, credible alternatives, and the freedom of citizens to make choices without intimidation, manipulation, or fear. Opposition parties must not be weakened or destroyed, because when democracy loses balance, the people ultimately suffer.
Nigeria today is passing through one of the most difficult periods in its history. Poverty is rising. Hunger is widespread. Insecurity continues to threaten lives and livelihoods. Businesses are shutting down daily. Our young people are becoming discouraged, and many citizens have lost faith in the system. At a time like this, leadership must be driven not by propaganda or division, but by competence, capacity, character, and compassion.
Our decision to join the NDC is therefore not an abandonment of values, but a continuation of the same mission we have always stood for: building a Nigeria where leadership is about service, where public resources are managed responsibly, where institutions function independently, and where every Nigerian, regardless of tribe, religion, region, or social status, can live with dignity, security, and hope.
I remain committed to working with all Nigerians of goodwill across political, ethnic, and religious lines. The task before us is bigger than any individual or political party. It is about the future of our children and the survival of our dear nation.
I thank Nigerians, especially our youths and women, for remaining peaceful, resilient, and hopeful despite the enormous challenges confronting the country. I urge you not to lose faith in Nigeria. Nations do not change because people surrender to hopelessness; they change because people continue to believe, continue to sacrifice, and continue to stand for what is right.
A new Nigeria is still POssible. -PO

@BolajiADC I’ve given up… 😔
The Nigeria we dream of feels increasingly out of reach.
What we’re seeing today isn’t opposition; it’s a collection of elites and a complete absence of direction.
