People under the age of fifty have only ever known one US foreign policy era, that of the globalist neocons / liberal interventionists, run for decades by boomers educated in the era of post war triumphalism, whose interventionist hubris served as the tale of Icarus flying too close to the sun for us, their millennial & Gen Z children, to ever embark on the same variety of delusional foreign policy misadventure. We will in turn, make many of our own mistakes, most of which nobody currently hurling “neocon” as invective online, will be willing to to admit are a problem in real time, because they are too busy screaming about the no longer existential almost entirely mythical-at-this-moment-in-history neoconservatism of their parents & grandparents.

The supreme downside of human intelligence is that it's possible to interpret any experience in any way. The rationalist-materialist ideology that burdens our current culture takes advantage of this by coming up with canned interpretations that can be used to dismiss any experience that contradicts it. That's not an unusual thing; every form of fundamentalism (and rationalist materialism is a fundamentalist ideology) uses some such trick.
