@IslesFix Do we have 5 better forwards than Schenn?? I don’t love the move entirely.. bur we got back a very solid player, one that was certainly an upgrade from most of our options.

The Schenn move was horrible. It was horrible if they make the playoffs. It was horrible if they miss the playoffs. Not the move to make for this franchise at this point, with this roster.

The #Isles got better today. Can anyone change my mind?

@StapeNHL @IslesFix Agree with everything. Love making moves with some urgency. They went and got the best coach available. Definitely an upgrade as simple as that. This is the NHL.. glad thy made a standout move

Since my earlier thoughts are now useless (just a few minutes quicker than usual), here's a few thoughts on the #Isles firing Patrick Roy and hiring Peter DeBoer: -- As one longtime #Isles fan just said in a chat: This franchise has never been proactive in my lifetime. I'll amend that to one time: When Lou pounced to hire Barry Trotz before the ink was dry on Barry's WSH divorce. It made all the difference. -- Darche and ownership getting aggressive here makes sense to me: Jump what could be a long line for DeBoer at season's end, maybe give the #Isles a jolt into this postseason and move on from a coach GMMD was likely not sold on for the future of this team regardless of whether there were playoffs this season. -- Could be 5-6 teams looking for coaches once the season ends (TOR, LA, NSH, CBJ, WPG, VGK) and DeBoer/Cassidy/Laviolette would be in demand. As long as ownership was willing to eat $ on Roy and pay up for DeBoer, you gotta act fast. -- DeBoer's first year behind the bench: Took NJ to the Final in 11-12; took SJ to the Final in 15-16; took VGK to WCF in 19-20; took DAL to WCF in 22-23. -- Bringing DeBoer in and not searching for a less experienced coach to grow with the younger #Isles tells me ownership wants to win soon. That tells me they're ready to be aggressive this offseason in remaking the roster. -- Buckle up.

The #Isles didn’t fire Patrick Roy because of one bad week. They fired him because the same problems that never got fixed ultimately led to this late-season demise. That includes the power play. @TheElmonters theelmonters.com/p/islanders-ro…

@datadomNY @IslesFix Totally agree. People are caught up in it not being right by Roy, after overachieving this year. Many things have been wrong this year.. just been carried by 48 and 30s backs.

#Isles fans, Pete Deboer is an excellent coach. This move had to happen. Roy should’ve been fired before this season even started but it’s great to see them make the move while still technically in the race.

@Knoxvols1972 @stefen_rosner Agreed. But the D corp needs a shakeup. Pelech and Pulock aren’t the same players anymore, and Mayfield is just casual. Get rid of the country club vibe back there

Darche has known this for quite some time. This wasn’t a new issue. DeAngelo missing time exposed an already struggling defense group. Sorokin’s Vezina-worthy play for most of season — fell out of race this week — was because of how many HD shots he was facing & saving.

@stefen_rosner @TheElmonters Well said Stef. Power play has been horrible all year. Defensive structure has been horrible all year. Line combinations have been a mess all year. Love Roy, and he did some great things.. but Pete is a much more established coach who hopefully can get these things right.

Shabanov coming into top six instead of Duclair tells you a lot at this juncture of season. #Isles

Duclair is good enough to play with Barzal as a top left winger.. but with the season on the line for the last 20 games.. he can’t play over Palat??? He cant even get one game??? The tale on Duclair makes no sense #Isles

@stefen_rosner Roy should’ve added he needs to change the lineup. The one he keeps rolling is struggling to get wins. But i agree, for the Isles to come out with no legs after days off, and the other team on a B2B.. can’t happen with playoffs on the line in the NHL

Roy said that he could have said a few more things before puck drop, but this is the NHL with everything on the line and a veteran team. Can't be on the coach for why they aren't mentally ready to play.

It will be interesting to see how the #Isles respond after Roy's postgame presser. Roy took part of the blame, but he doesn't play the games or control their energy levels. They need to play for each other, but if they appreciate Roy, they need to play for him, too.

@stefen_rosner When is Roy going to shake the lineup up? Palat is a complete dud. Fourth line provides no offense. Team needs some juice. Duclair riding pine has been ridiculous

@AGrossNewsday Barzy wont leave the ice. Have to double shift him and Horvat as much as you can this period. Do whatever it takes. Need all the skill we can get. No fourth line this period

End of two #Flyers 3 (Tippett, Bump, Michkov) #Isles 1 (Pageau) Flyers up on shots 18-13. Isles with a better period (it couldn't have been worse than the first) but couldn't get that second goal despite some sustained pressure after Pageau's tally.

@islanders_takes When Horvat went down, Duke supplied the goals. Kept this team afloat offensively. Then he gets scratched game after game.. theres no way he can’t be in the lineup over Palat and Maclean here on out. Roy just wasn’t giving us the best chance with him in the seats.

#isles "It's just the fact that Barzy & Duke played well together earlier this year so naturally I banished Duke to the shadow realm for 50 straight games completely killing any and all hope he had at actually being able to fight his way onto the ice and contribute." I'm trying hard not to be entirely sour on Roy but...

Ritchie- Schenn- Barzal line has been great, so I wouldn’t mind sticking with that… but thats not even in the cards now!

Heineman- Horvat- Barzal Duclair- Schenn- Ritchie Lee- Pagaeu- Holmstrom Shabanov/Palat- Cizikas- Gatcomb Go back to some of these lines that have proven chemistry. And get more skill in and throughout the lineup. #Isles
