Don't, please, just don't. What's wrong with recruiters these days?

6. Another observation for smaller companies: sharing the basics that indicate this could be good for matter. Mission, funding, things that signal that good people work at the company. (It’s also why ex-WellKnownCompany founders/engineers works).

A super interesting topic: cold outreach emails that work (think: LinkedIn InMails). If you’re hiring, do you write personalised messages? Short, mysterious ones? How much do you tailor it? When I at Uber I asked several sourcers on this and learned a few interesting things:

If you own a tech product, please don't tell me "x days ago" in your timestamps, add the entire thing – hovering over it doesn't make it better

@GergelyOrosz Seems likely that big tech will soon gobble up talent from startups and scale ups which are struggling.

Seeing an increasing number of signs pointing to how the formerly booming tech funding + hiring market will hit a chill. From late-stage company valuation (+ fundraising & hiring) struggles to the public sector growth slowing... I'm writing up my observations in this space.

This tweet thread from years ago is pure cringe, and this take is an especially bad one. The best engineers I know have all been fantastic mentors/teachers. Those who cannot explain or mentor are either poor communications, don’t understand it themselves, or have a huge ego.
Shekhar Kirani@skirani

9. 10x engineers are poor mentors as they can't teach others on what to do OR parcel the work. They always think "It takes too long to teach or discuss with others, I would rather do it myself." They are also poor interviewers.

Well this is a first: "There's an exodus among engineers at my workplace. My manager saw that I keep liking your posts on LinkedIn. Assumed I'm about to quit too. They promoted me and I got a nice raise. No direct evidence, just my hypothesis. But I like to believe it.🤣"

@GergelyOrosz Yeah 😅, I mean, when I say stress I meant it as "emphasize". But it's not necessarily at management level, you could also see recruiters that justify compensation with the environment. When I think both shouldn't be mutually exclusive 🤔

@IsmaelMT It's not about companies, but yourself. "Companies stress" also means a manager is stressing. Companies are made of people (who often move companies :) )

People I look up to are curious, approachable, helping others around them over "just" chasing titles or finances. So it's ironic that a lot of my current thoughts are on the latter (compensation), not much about the former. It's a balance: don't forget professional growth.
