- I Read The Globe and Mail’s Latest Hit Piece On The NDP - In the opinion piece, Konrad Yakabuski attacks Jewish members of the NDP as being antisemitic. He makes the argument that anti-Zionism in 2026 is antisemitism. He says that the NDP has a problem with antisemitism because Wab Kinew opposed the war in Iran. The real problem here is that The Globe and Mail has an anti-Palestinian bias. They regularly attack pro-Palestinian voices, including myself. They aim to discredit the struggle for Palestinian human rights while vigorously defending Israel whenever they can. Canadian media bias has never been so evident—accusing Jewish political leaders of being antisemitic. I was not surprised to see Rebel News go down that path, explicitly labeling Avi Lewis as a “self hating jew” but many of us expect better from The Globe and Mail, a major Canadian newspaper. This op-ed is beyond problematic. Yakabuski accuses the NDP of having an “antisemitism problem” because it elected Jewish anti-Zionist leaders who oppose Israel’s genocide. Offensively, he implies that the presence of keffiyehs and a Palestinian flag at the NDP convention is itself evidence of antisemitism within the party. We are pleased that the CBC Ombud has issued a landmark decision upholding our complaints regarding CBC's false claims that Israel’s occupation of Gaza “ended” in 2005. For years, CBC has repeatedly reported that “Israel's military occupation of the territory ended” in 2005. However, this is a settled question in international law: Israel’s occupation of Gaza never ended, due to its ongoing effective control over the territory. In a direct rebuke of CBC editorial staff, the CBC Ombud sided with our complaint, finding that CBC failed to meet the “criteria for accuracy” in the ethical codes that guide its journalism. An editor's note and a correction were added to the original story. This review helps ensure that CBC News will now have to be honest about Israel’s longstanding occupation of Gaza, rather than obscuring it. Rosemary Barton's interview with Avi Lewis was tough, combative, and at times condescending. This is radically unlike her recent interview with Israeli politician Yair Lapid.

Congratulations to new @NDP leader @avilewis. A long-time supporter of the Palestine solidarity movement from a socialist, anti-Zionist Jewish tradition, Lewis used his first speech to oppose Israel’s genocide in Gaza and the illegal war on Iran. A key reason I talk about the Sun is because they are a member of the National NewsMedia Council (@CANmediacouncil), which adjudicates complaints from the public. The Council is lending its perceived prestige/legitimacy to the Sun, harming public trust in media, not helping it.

In the @TheTorontoSun, the recently reinstated @BryanPassifiume paraphrased pro-Israel group @Tafsikorg's claim that "anti-democracy" is a 'far-left ideal.' Passifiume did not disclose his sponsored trip to Israel with the Exigent Foundation, which is partly funded by Israel.

This article is a clear example of editorializing within a news report. Join our collective media advocacy efforts to hold the Toronto Sun accountable for failing to meet basic journalistic standards. The article asserts that “Anti-Israel and far-left activists in Toronto embarked on a campaign of harassment and intimidation almost immediately after the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks in Israel." This is a subjective statement presented as fact without attribution or evidence. Such framing and remarks violate various standards set out by the Canadian Association of Journalists. The article's framing reinforces the idea that pro-Palestinian expression is inherently linked to antisemitism, which is a common trope in media that meets the definition of anti-Palestinian racism as defined by the Arab Canadian Lawyers Association.
